Finally got the engine running and took the car for a short test drive. We bought the car about 4 months ago and this is the first time on the road in 2-3 years. It drove like a sailboat (I kinda expected that). It's a 74 charger auto with a 318. I knew everything made of rubber under the car would need to be changed. Questions are, starting with safety in mind what steering and suspension components would you start replacing first? I would like to still be able to drive the car some during this project. Second question is what vendors do you use for these parts and why? The car will be a weekend driver kind of car so what's underneath doesn't have to be pretty just dependable, made of quality materials and at a working man's prices.

Well, I'd replace what is worn the worst first, crossed with what is most critical. For example, a bad ball joint can ruin your day real bad when it breaks. A strut rod bushing that is severely deteriorated is still not all that terrible.

If everything is safe but worn, I'd save my pennies and do it all at the same time. Once you rebuild a suspension component you don't want to be taking it apart again and again to do the next components. You'll save a lot of time, money and frustration doding it all at the same time.

There are two rules of thought on this process...
1) Replace everything one time --- and you are done for life.....
2) Replace everything that is truly bad only --- and worry about the rest, if and when....

Keep in mind, that after you do this, you need to bring the car to a reliable Front End Alignment shop --- which costs $ 100 - $ 125 -- so you really only want to spend for that once, which gives more credence to 1) above ^^^^....

If you want to do it with the top of the line U. S. A. Made Quality parts --- I have Everything in stock, and give"package deals".....

P.M. me, as per forum rules, if interested....I can go over your options, pricing, etc., etc. ---- Yours, Craig.....

Thanks guys it does make sense (a lot) to do it all at once. Craig, I'm putting a list together of what we need and looking at maybe changing most of the rubber under the car once the front is done. Everything under the car looks original for a 47-48 year old car. This is what we've come up with so for.
·Lower ball joints
·Upper ball joints
·Upper control arm bushings
·Lower control arm bushings
·Idler Arm
·Outer tie rod ends
·Inner tie rod ends
·Tie rod sleeves
·Strut rod bushings
·Upper control arm bumpers
·Lower control arm bumpers
