i have a 76 440 and im trying to squeeze out some more power on a budget ! it has a street hemi cam right now with stock heads ! what would u guess my HP & TQ would be at ???

i think a stock 76 440 had like 210 hp and 320 tq @ 2000 rpms

Planning on some heads later

Any info would be great thanks

In my opinion a 76 440, assuming it's original, doesn't have the compression to support the HEMI grind cam. My guess is the low end performance is pretty bad and your cranking compression pressure is less then 140 PSI. Pull that cam out and put in a cam that is designed for 8:1 compression. The major cam companies all have something that will work.

How could i bump up the compression ratio to run this cam ?

Thanks for the info

You cant on a budget........
A diffferent cam with very little overlap between exh and int will help get some more pressure, but thats changing the cam like was already suggested.

Bolt on wise you can use a steel shim gasket and the early closed chamber 516 heads or the much preferred 915 castings. Both have the same chamber but the 915 has a much better intake port. Your total compression gain factoring in the shim gasket and the closed chamber heads may be up to one full point. Still may not arrive at the optimum CR for that cam. As stated above there is no cheap way out to increase the CR.

For compression pressure use a gauge (compression tester) and follow the procedure.

To get the ratio pull the heads and CC the chambers and factor in the gasket volume, piston top profile and how far the piston sits in the hole then do the math.
