I found this thread.
https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/rear-axle-removal-problem.115233/

I have similar problem.
I haven't done this for ~ 30 years, but should't be so hard?
  • 5 retaining nuts removed
  • brake pad spreader bar removed
  • no spring washer or anything left on any of the axle studs
  • the flange seems to be pretty well centered on the 5 studs
  • I can move the flange out on all 5 studs ~ 1/8 inch with screwdrivers / pry bars.
  • i can push / pull axle ~ 1/4 in / out, then a solid clunk.

I successfully removed the drivers side axle.

Anything I'm missing before I apply slide hammer or?

I did this probably 30 times back in "the day" and never had an issue, but this axle has been in there since 1969.

Thanks

Craig

Yes, A Body, but I thought there might be more traffic here.

Never mind.
Just took a bit of persuading.
I tapped around the big circular wheel bolt flange a bit and voila!

Put the brake drum on backwards. Put 3 or 4 lug nuts on tight until thread are well threaded but not tight and use drum as a slide hammer.
