8 3/4 Limit?

I suppose the fact that thru the years I have upgraded and kept a close eye on the 8 3/4 in my GTX, leaving at 3200 with a trans brake and not broken anything means, I'm lucky. 1974 was the last time on the street and now it will leave with the wheels up to a best of 10.34 and 60 ft low 1.40's'
But I have acquired a Dana 60 housing from a 3/4 ton Ford pickup and I will be doing a changeover soon, as a safety measure. :steering:

You have done very well! What gear ratio?

For those guys thinking about a DANA....
A thing of beauty...… It was $2756 for a turn key installation at the rear end shop in Fresno. I dropped my car off with the narrowed 8 3/4 in it and picked it up with my brand new DANA. I used the 11" drum brakes off my 8 3/4 and a DANA Housing out of a 2005, or so, 1 ton Dodge pickup (which they gutted and narrowed, but everything else was new.
It is all Moser parts, gears, axles, etc. 4.30 with a Spool.

Did you use Fearless Gear in Fresno?

I know Vince the owner, good dude.

Thanks for the comment, as for the gears it currently has 4.56 after changing from 4.88 last winter.

My observation is that the 4.56 ratio ring gear teeth are double the size of 4.89 due to the change in pinion teeth. A factor not known to many folks. Dana 60 is still the way to go for assured durability.

Sounds real good, Dana 60 is the way to go in my opinion.Gear ratio depends on tire size & MPH you will achieve, and RPM limit of your motor.

Ouch! What manufacturer made the ring and pinion? Looks as if it snapped right off at the bottom of the teeth. High rpm launch?

It was a no name gear. Previous Motive street gear went 420 passes. Then it bent a pinion tooth. This one only went 125 passes. 3000 rpm foot brake, 3350lbs. Actually ran 1.25/9.10 on this pass. New US Gear pro gear is going in now.
