When I purchased this 8 3/4 rearend, I was told it was from a 66 Plymouth B body wagon?? Later while having it "checked out" I was told that it was really out of an 83 Chrysler Fifth-Avenue ??? Since the drums are the "unfinned" type I am doubting the latter ID. The problem; the rearend contained none of the brake hardware inside the drums, and I need to know the correct items to source?? Any ideas??? Thanks for the help, littlemo... ADD; Sorry, pics came out in reverse rder ???

First off the person who told you that rearend came from a 83 Fifth Avenue knows absolutely nothing about mopars! The 8.75 ended in all Mopars in 74. You are right as most of the earlier rears had the unfinned drums.

The brake hardware can all be purchased at your local parts store. Just tell the parts guy what it is from and that it has 10" drums.

Joe

Most 10" drums are smooth. 11" are finned.
Yep 74 was the last year of the 8.75

Good info.... Well heres another good 8.75 ? And its not gunna hi-jack your thread, but whats the Axle spline count on a 741 carrier and shafts? dated 68.....

I found this in a rear end guide i have,

1-3/8" small stem pinion (aka '741')
Carrier casting numbers: 1820657 (1957-1964), 2070741 (1964-1972). This assembly was typically used in low weight/low horsepower applications through low weight/medium horsepower and high weight/low horsepower applications. Pinion depth and bearing preload is set with shims. Differential bearing setting (ie. backlash) is set with threaded adjusters.

I think the one with the flange is a late fifties mopar!early 60s had the yoke. All it is good for is scrap!

Thanks guys, that' the info I needed; now to find all the hardware. Moparsteve636, you're correct, the rear with the flange was out of a 48 P15 and has already been scrapped. littlemo...

All factory 8 3/4's are 30 spline axles.

brake parts

I just rebuilt the brakes on my 65 Coronet with 10" drums. Shoes, spring kits, self adjusters, wheel cylinders & three flexable brake hoses plus front hub seals. All four wheels.
I got it all from rock auto, had it in three days, everything correct and cost $150.00 including shipping.

Brake Parts??

bluefury; Where did you find the "parking brake link, spring, and lever"??

Link:

Anyone know if if the "parking brake lever to shoe link" from a (6 cyl-9") 65-70 mustang or an (8 cyl-10") 65-73 mustang rear drum will interchange with my brake shoes on the 8 3/4 rear ???

Bendix brakes is what they were some Fords were the same.Measure diameter of drum and width of drum probably 2 or 2.5 inches.
