93 Dodge Ram 250

Well, This truck is nearly completely disassembled 100%, I am not going any further, cab is on and won't come off, truck is in blast bay, will be media blasted tomorrow morning early before the heat really cranks up! I will have some pics tomorrow of the bare truck with no paint.

Wow! That's a lot of work but I wish I had did something like this to my 79 D300 Adventurer SE Club Cab and just dropped in a diesel into it instead of buying my 97 2500 and selling the 300. The 79 was really comfortable with the later model captains chairs too and was solid black with all the trim and it still got lots of looks. This red 97 thing....well, it's just another red truck. On the transmission in the 93, I'm pretty sure it's called a 618...based on a 727 but bigger and the 6BT engine weighs in around 900 lbs. Way too big and heavy for something made in China to hold....lol

So that's what the 6BT sticker is for, an ID? Cool, I knew it was a heavy engine, and, the 1000 lb Harbor Freight engine stand was not going to handle that weight!

Made some progress on this truck! If you want to see it, follow the FB link off my website, there the 'new' pics reside, not up on my main site...yet.

Making massive progress on this truck! Got the frame done, and in epoxy then chassis black, cab and bed in epoxy and most bodywork is done, hood was toast, got a new one NEW one for 200 bucks, applying U-Pol undercoating tomorrow to underside of cab, then bed (if I have enough material) if not, go get another qt.

Can't preach it enough; you never know what you got until you get it media blasted. Don't spend one dollar on paint unless you got your **** blasted, trust me!

Going to start assembling the truck tomorrow! All readying the transport to the painter, then, and there he can pull the panels off and paint after blocking and sanding, etc. Looking back on my pictures taken of this adventure, I can clearly see I didn't take enough! So, lesson learned take TONS of pics, especially in the raw form, meaning before you take it apart, not raw format, haha.

Rust. Sucks. ***! Was changing brake hoses yesterday, and, had to disconnect brake lines, and, the nut would not spin on the brake line, just turned them up and broke, every brake line was and is compromised with rust. So, I got to hand bend new brake lines (a real PITA) to fit all 4 corners, and, O'Reilly sold me the WRONG frigging brake hoses too! They fixed 'em and ordered me the right ones. But, RUST SUCKS ***!

Living in Minnesota I completely understand what you mean! You are going to have an awesome truck when your done.

X3.

NW Indiana is terrible with road salt in the winter. And of course I picked a car that lived its whole life in the Chicago area...:drowning:

...sad thing is the owner will likely take it back into the salty roads of NY (maybe), but not sure of in N. Cali they use road salt?

Putting this truck back together has been a HUGE task. I can't stress enough folks, take TONS of pictures before you yank stuff apart, not just one angle, but, as many as you can get! Today I was leaning on the newly installed fenders, looking at the wiring harness laying on both inner fenders, utilizing my Blackberry Playbook with all the photos of this truck loaded on it, man, what a tool! I can look at all my pics, zoom in, and pan around! The Playbook is smaller than that iPad, so, it can fit in my hands easily and be used like a tool, not too big, not too small, I was able to ascertain exactly which holes all the relay's went in, the starter relays, and all the stuff stuck to the inner fenders, even down to the type of screw utilized. I did bag and tag everything, but, you always find out later that you didn't quite get everything bagged and tagged correctly! The shift linkage was another area that I was smiling when I had to put it back together today, I have pictures to assist me! Should be able to do the initial fire up tomorrow, got a few connectors that I can't find where they go...and to what they match to! :toothy10:

So did you get the chassis painted black and the body in primer donny?

Yes I did! Got the engine back in, fenders on, made some tweaks to the rockers to fit better, got a little more tweaking to do when the doors go on, glad I took lots of pics, but, sadly, I didn't take enough and at enough angles of stuff as I took it apart. Putting it back together things like the intercooler paint is coming off, chipping off more like it. It's 20 yrs old, something the owner dosn't really fathom! I told him it has to get painted, aluminum will corrode. He's a bit upset as we've gone past his 10K budget for this restoration. Good thing I never agreed to 10K at day one! He has in his mind that 10K still is the number...amazing what people will think their 10k is worth; its wprth 10k! DOH!

Glad to hear things are going back together donny. Would you clasify this as one of your most challenging media blasting projects? I hope the owner doesn't think that after the truck comes back from painter that he's getting it for 10k.Anybody should be able to tell that you've more then got over 10k worth of supplies and labor into that.Don't get on FB alot so maybe you can throw a couple picture up here when you can.

I caint believe anybody in their right mind would want to go to all these lengths on an OBD 1 vehicle. But good on you Donny. You're doin a great job.

I completely agree, Following along with this, its amazing how much work has gone into it!

You can see more pics of this old Dodge on my site. The owner told me "I want to own and drive this vehicle for at least another 20 yrs". He bought it brand new. He also said "Fix the peeling paint, and get rid of the rust on the vehicle, including the frame". What he is surprised on was how extensive the work is! When I'm done, it will be the nicest Gen 1 Dodge truck out there period. But, the book value on this truck is nothing. Me and the owner go round and round each month, he complains about price, I justify all my hours, then he pays me. I won't take on these big projects anymore; tear down, blast and build back, no way.

I put some more pics up on my main website, the owner has 'issues' each month as we're over his fantasy number of 10 grand, he always says "I don't know how I got to this point of a total restoration when all I asked was paint fix, and rust eradication on all panels and frame". I then remind him every month that I never NEVER promised 10 grand for this job, only that I would TRY to do it and be as frugile as possible, but, I would never sacrifice safety issues or rust 'eradication' issues over cost. Meaning, when I put my hands to this, this is my calling card; meaning, once you do it cheap and cut corners, people see it and say "He could have done better there".

Status: today I should be getting it running again after replacing ALL the brakes and ALL the components of the brakes, should be an interesting day!

I have a 1988 3/4 ton with brand new Cragar 8 lugs & BF Goodrich tires I listed last year that just needs brake work and a front pump seal to drive. My floors are pretty much solid, and I'm in Ohio. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?30914-1988-D200-Pickup

The truck also has a brand new grille from headlight to headlight.

With my diabetes leg problem, I need to get a big fat ride so I can go places. I would consider a trade or negotiate the price.
