93 Dodge Ram 250

Looks like the truck is getting back his glory but 100x better.

The rear sliding window has been problematic, only because I tossed the original window gasket. It has a sliding window from the factory, I ordered a window gasket totally ignorant of the possibility it may take a different gasket than the non sliding window, won't make that mistake ever again. Well, I went to Pick N Pull and found several old Gen 1 trucks with factory rear sliding windows, so, I popped one out, took the gasket, and took the window for good measure, $45.00 bucks later it was a good call, this gasket won't accommodate the factory window! :( So, Monday, I'm going to be messing with these windows trying to get them to work, I may just call a glass man to come install this and the front window, I really don't have time to 'learn' how to do this, hiring a pro is the best bet IMHO.

Got a few wiring gremlins to source; the roof lights are in series, and, the first one is the only one to work, I got to still hook up the rear wiring harness to the tail lights, and sort out the camper connection harness. However, when I start driving it on the road, I will just take it over to a camper place and have them hook it up, or install a new harness.

This interior is all new, and, it's exciting to just gawk at it, and the new stereo is also kick ***, much MUCH better sound than the broken factory unit, all for 300 bucks from Crutchfield!

Thanks for the positive words ya'll! I'll take some more pics next week when its outside in the light.

Got a few issues to sort; roof and parking lights inop albeit one roof light. I got to get the front end aligned and steering wheel centered, A/C evacuated and re-filled, Door hinges to rebuild, wiper blades/arms to install, center mounted stop light to install/fix, body side mouldings to install, steam clean overspray the paintshop didn't tape up and protect the engine from (upset at them for this), Tranny fluid top-off, and put some miles on it! Looking at early June have it ready for customer! Be glad to be gone with this vehicle.

Just in case anyone's wondering what this Ram W250 Diesel looks like? Taken today. Almost done.

Some subtle yet effective modifications: Gen IV roof clearance lights installed, notice the cool Cummins Orange color on bottom of body mouldings? Same color as the original fender badging color! It really stands out that black and orange and white, really sharp looking IMHO, and I'm my own worst critic! This mod was actually needed as the original was chrome, and it was crapped out, and this moulding is no longer available, and, what pieces are still out there in the system are wicked expensive (I had to change one piece that I broke), so, sanded the old chrome parts off, smoothed the plastic, primed, single stage orange, about 20 coats, then sanded it down giving it that correct Orange color.

Looks good Donny. I didn't notice the orange on the trim till you mentioned it. But you're right, it does add a nice touch. That year had the wide chrome crosshair grille, didn't it? If so I like them on that style truck.

beautiful work! I'm gonna swap the regular glass in my '88 for a slider I puled from my '87, but I think I'll have the glass man do it.

Getting the rear window gasket is going to be problematic, I used a junkyard gasket and a new window.

Well, I sorted all the issues out, delivered the truck with its camper on the back to the owner in Sacramento, and returned yesterday. He did nothing but bitch, complain and find fault with this and that. I finally told him its a 20 yr old truck with some new items on it. He also told me I put the exhaust on wrong as its hitting the shock, and the trim is crooked, and incorrect screws hold the sill plates on, and the seat fabric is inferior to the factory fabric! No wonder my sister divorced his ***!

However, I had proof in pictures the trim was installed straight, the pipe is put on just as it came off (old pics are great arbiters of truth), and he shut up at that point. Then, as I was leaving, he told me I did exactly what he wanted to have done, even after months of telling me he didn't want a restoration. What a fool.

Highlights of the trip; Not one issue at all with the truck, just as I knew, I have full faith and confidence in what I've done. The hill called Grapevine north of Los Angeles is the biggest one I've ever seen, and driven up! I popped the OD off, and managed to pull 45-55 mph up the entire mess! And I weighed 10K lbs!

I handed the guy the keys, gave him the invoice, heard him bitch, said I don't care, pay me. He did.

Lessons to learn and pass on: Get more earnest money, stress to the owner this is not going to be cheap, don't candy coat anything, take more before disassembly photos, find a way to cut the ghost hours that go into the vehicle, have solid and good sub-contractor relationships with paint and body. I have good sub relations with Interior shop. And, remember to always take full responsibility for what your Subs do, and don't do!
