Unfortunately, it was only free back in 1989. :( I was looking through some old papers for my son and found this raffle ticket from the Carlisle Summer show in 1989. Yes, they actually did give away a 1970 440 4-spd Superbird. The only glitch with it was it had been repainted black. The winner was an elderly woman who rushed to the stage and went to the wrong car. She had absolutely no idea what she had won.

The funniest thing was they made a huge deal out of the fact that they had bought the car in 1988 for I believe $8,000, and by the time they gave it away it had escalated in value to $25,000, so it was the most expensive car ever given away at Carlisle at the time.

Would be interesting to know how that story progressed over the years. As in where is the car? Did the lady hold on to it?

Good question. My friend and I were wondering about that as we were leaving. She didn't seem like the type of person who would be wanting a Superbird so I'm guessing she sold it that day.

That was also the Carlisle where a 1971 red/black Hemi Cuda convertible was parked at the west entrance with a for sale sign that said the owner wanted $25,000 on it, and we were all laughing at the guy for asking that much for a frigging Cuda. :)
