Once again wish I had 1/2 his construction talents

Tell me about it. We bought a new Big screen TV for our one living room and were looking for a entertainment center to put it on as I did not want to hang it.. He said all that stuff is press board garbage veneer coated junk. Buy me REAL wood and I will make you one. I bought him a bunch of Cherry wood and at age 16 he built my wife and I this...Has nicks in it we have to touch up after 4 years of use and playing with the dog but still looks great..

I have a friend that I shoot pool with that found out he was a carpenter and has been using him on weekends, then the neighbor saw some of his work and he works for him too now... He is literally outside now and spent the whole weekend with his cousin building a small shop so he can work on small projects in his own space. He dug the entire foundation out by hand on nights and weekends. Mixed and Poured the footers a month ago and now laying block...

He has no quit in him and is always thinking... Where he built the shed there was a few massive rocks. So I told him I would get my trailer, run down to one of my jobs and bring my JD home with the loader to get them out and move them. He said "No, by the time you do all that I thought about that and it's easier if I just hammer drill them, Fill them with Dexspan then they will split by tomorrow afternoon. Then I can move them by hand"... It worked, was faster and simple plus he likes using all the tools he has...

Just wanted to share what my son built for me and my wife. A giant wood shed 14x8. He built it at nights from 6-8:30 after working 10.5-11hrs at his job and a few weekends in between snow and rain. The nights he would burn his cut-offs so he could warm his hands up. Started it Thanksgiving and he finished it Christmas day in the snow showers. He is a carpenter by trade. It's built to the grade of the land. Almost all of it was reclaimed from jobs he worked on. I had to buy very little. Even the 6x6 were used for a few weeks as temporary supports then thrown away. Boss was happy my son took all 16 of them cause he said we have to pay per pound to get rid of them. That was over $1,000 for them. It is crazy how wasteful job sites become. Anyway the siding is old horse fence boards he planed and the batons are those boards ripped in 1/2 then cut so the were not bulky looking. Rafters were old floor joists from a demo job where they put an addition on. The back wall is galvanized roof from a barn they refinished. I felt we didn't need wood back there and it's the backside and covered in trees(damp). Not bad for a 20 year old. Very proud of him and his knowledge and work ethic..

Our furry kid even had fun with moving the wood into it. All those scents as to what could have been under those tarps!

I have been a woodworker all my life and have built furniture for the Bush family. It's not only talent that is needed, it's work ethic, look it up and you'll see a picture of your son!! It paid off for me and I'm sure it will for him. I say well done!! Be proud!

That great for two reasons One your son was raised right and looks out for family. Two he has skill that no no one can take away and people will always need. Congrats on a great person

This is something that I tried to teach my children. Anything that you can learn to do yourself is something that you will never have to pay anyone else to do for you, but unfortunately they haven't grasped what I was trying to tell them. It's nice to see people from this generation get out there and work and take pride in what they do.
