A question on brakes

Yes or no on disc brakes

I took the poll for this post thinking that it was about the front disc/rear drum set-up. Yet it was for the rear disc so my answer will always be this...Disc up front for the added safety feature in today's driving environment, and the drums in the rear. I did this to my 2 Mopars and it worked as advertised so no need for the rears unless as Kern pinted out, for some extreme driving on courses then OK...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:
 
I'll admit the front disc/rear drum looks a little goofy with open-wheel designs like torq-thrusts and such.
That said, it's the way I have my car set up and I feel it's the best all-around compromise for these cars as far as performance. I use an adjustable valve to keep the rear drums from locking up before their time.
The key to this poll for me was, "1/3 of the current cost". That makes it an easy yes IMO.
 
Both my cars with aftermarket rear discs have pizza cutter front tires and giant rear ones. Both primarily drag cars, so extreme driving is a given.The idea of the rear discs was to get more rear bias braking. Neither of them had rear brakes at all , so a disc setup was a no-brainer.
Would I do a rear disc conversion of a car that had good functioning drum brakes? Absolutely not.
 
Do what makes you feel good, no big deal
a 7/8" to 15/16" (no bigger bore) appropriate MC,
& a good adj. proportioning valve, proper distribution valve for 4 wheel disc
stainless Teflon inners/lines, so you don't lose any pedal, from rubber hose expansion
& adj. prop. valve to help with the proper brake bias,
it won't hurt the car or the value
albeit front disc & rear drum is adequate, the RR & Super Bees had big drum brakes
just not as good IMHFO

do what makes you happy, I don't ever build by committee
if it's not an OE resto, or big $ #s car, then who cares if it's not 100% OE
just use quality stuff

I do still like 4 wheel disc.,
especially if you have to replace worn out or bad old drum brakes
especially when I like spirited driving up here in the sticks,
far less fade with discs, especially going downhill...
I will eventually do it on my 68 RR too, it will probably be manual brakes too
(SSBC is what I have on the shelf, done a couple sets of them on other cars)
but with discs on all 4
(may do an electric booster, if needed)
You need to watch out for wheel clearances, a lot of discs set ups, front or rear
just won't clear offsets or inside rims, without grinding on calipers etc. or spacers :BangHead:
in old 15" wheels (15" min. is a given if you do, do it), depends on what wheels you have

4-whl 11” drums(& manual adjusters!). I think the youngest is slowly coming over to NOT rear discs. Heck, all of his cars are at the least; frt.discs.
Guess it sounded good to him at the time(?). He does have a buddy that looks for great deals on anything and goes for it.

Lol, IF it would have been fronts, I would have thought a lot harder. Although a different master cylinder & proportioning valve would’ve made me think a little bit.
