a smal project.

nice pictures. Iam thinking about building a 383a . Think the fuelconsumpion will be much less then a 512. Looks like a big project but it must be done.

Fuel costs...

Yes, less cubes will need less fuel generally speaking. And certainly you can get enough power from a 383 (guys here pull 1000 bhp from their 3l BMWs...corresponds to 2000 bhp in a 383...).
My 2 engine blocks in the photos are both 400-blocks. One is planned to be used for an injected E85 stroker (451 cui or more, next winter's project), the other 400-block is planned to become a turbo-charged E85 engine.
With the current outrageous fuel prices some money can be saved by running E85, and the octane rating corresponds to pure race fuel.

Sound like 2 very nice projects.
i have been thinking about building SB and turbocharge it. No problemo 500HP
on 98 leadfree????. nice crusingengine and still power when i want it.
Keep up the work

No problems with 500 hp in a turbo charged SB. Why not go for E85? More power and lower cost. I think the E85 is around 112 in octane rating...you can run higher compression than with 98...gives you a nicer engine on low revs and more power...

Update. Low oilpressure. Okey on idle and up to 4000rpm and only 3.2bar at 5000rpm. 15/40 syntetic. Melling hv but still 3/8 tub. testing some ideas tomorrow. .

Update. Checked all things and the only thing i think is left is the 3/8 tube so went ahead and made the hole for 1/2 thread. So good so far but i cant get the new pickup in because the long main bolts and the girdle so i am left with external oil pickup. Got a pump from a friend who moved on to this:
http://www.teamrt.se/?page_id=34 . Yes this is a Allan johnson car now living in sweden.
Will get back with pictures.

Hi again.
The engine is being put together again. Some new parts will hopfully the fix the pressure.

Johan, looks good! Your white oil filter looks smallish...I think the bigger ones with bigger filter area are better?

finaly it went in the superflow for some testing. Change the ecu to KMS but the rest is the same.

Does e85 really save on cost? Carbed motors use so much bigger jets it seems the savings would be negated by the larger demand. Seems octane and running cooler would be the only benefits.Maybe i,m looking at things wrong.

I think that when you have an engine built to run on gasoline, and you run e85 through it, it requires a lot more fuel and that negates the benefit of the lower cost. Thats why i think flex fuel vehicles are a joke. I would think if you had a higher compression engine set up specifically to run on alcohol it would get better power and mileage.

I agree with you.

My engine is built for E85 (~13:1), and it's unlikely I can run on highest octane pump gas. With the total control over injection and ignition that I have, and based on experience by others, I estimate that I will actually be able to save some money on the E85 fuel compared with pump gas. Can't remember the numbers exactly but I calculated something like a 15% reduction in cost with E85 (not in volume :icon_pirat: ). But I think it will require a lot of tinkering with the system...
This is based on the computer control, high compression, the cooling effect of the E85 etc. performance benefits.

But, it's strange that the taxation on E85 (here in the Nordic countries) is set such that there is normally not much incentive to switch to E85, especially with a somewhat less efficient flexi fuel engine.
From a pure performance point of view the E85 has many benefits of course.

I am not that skilled in computers so i decided to learn by my self and the KMS has a very user friendly layout. The Italien EFI is much more advanced and can do much more if you can use the full potential. On my old 500" i dont Think i need that.

Hi again.
Me and my friend bought new milodon pumps. I already had the cover for external and he is using intenal 3/8 tube.
Made the oilpressure to were we want it so now it is OK. Found some problems with the pump. The bottom were the rotor rests does not seem to align with the Surface that are for the blockmounting. Look at youtube for coronet69swede. have put some clips there and se.
