I had to cut out the inner lower fender brace,to get the fender to fit tight to the rocker panel. I fabricated a piece of steel to strengthen the inner bracing. I will have to do the same thing to the other fender too.
I got the fender brace welded in,and I welded a nut into the underside of the back upper fender, where there is usually a stud. This should make it easier to align the fender.
I ordered the TTI headers today. $1198.00 for polished ceramic coated headers with a pair of adapters with O2 bungs for thr Fi Tech fuel injection system!
Under the hood of this 70 Charger R /T SE is the 472 Hemi. I have to clean the car off and pull out the engine next week. I had planned on using the Hemi in this car, but it will be going in the race car now. But don't worry about the yellow Charger too much, because I bought another Hemi short block last year, and the top end from the 472 Hemi is going on to that engine and it will be going into the yellow Charger, so it will still have a Hemi, a 4 speed, and a 4.10 Dana 60 rear axle!
I am watching Roadkill, and they are truly an inspiration! They are putting a 70 Monte Carlo body on a late model stock car chassis,so they too can drive a stock car on the street!
Today I changed the passengers side door, whoever did the fabrication work made these cool steel door panels that were bead rolled to mimic the original 70 Charger door panels. I am going to make holes for the window cranks, and door handles in the steel door panels. I want working glass and door handles.
It really sucks to have to change out what appears to be rust free sheet metal because someone hacked it with no rhyme or reason. There is welding all over this door, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what this guy was trying to do! The only thing that I can guess is that maybe he was going to build crash bars inside the doors and drilled all the holes to do so,and then decided not to and welded all the holes back up! If anyone wants to build a Charger stock car and wants the parts that came off this car,let me know.
I still have quite a bit of unhacking to do to the body, but I feel like I am making real progress on the car. The guy who hacked up the body cut the rain gutters off the car. While I don't mind the shaved rain gutter look, I am thinking about ordering new rain gutters from AMD and putting them back on the car. I have two reasons for wanting to do this. The first one is that if I get caught in the rain, I would get soaked every time I rolled down the windows. The second reason is that I would like to put the wind deflectors on the A pillars like an original Daytona. I have two pairs of them. One pair are stainless steel like the original deflectors were. The other pair are steel, and could be finished any way I choose! I was thinking that the steel ones would be great on this car. I could do them body color, or have them chromed. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
I also cleared all the stuff off my 70 Charger R /T SE, and removed the hood to reveal the 472 Hemi engine! The next step will be to get it pulled out of the car, remove the top end of the engine and wrap it up for the trip to the engine builders shop! I still have the chrome Hemi valve covers that came with my 472 Hemi, and they have breathers on them, so I will probably be using those in the race car. I will put the 70 OEM value covers on the Hemi that will be going back into my yellow 70 Charger.
I got the right fender brace fabricated and welded in. I also converted the fender to a Daytona fender by cutting the lower bottom of the fender off and bending it to accept the Daytona front valence pan.
