A stock car flammin with a loser at the cruise control!

Thanks Troy, I was lucky that the guy who was coming up on my left saw the tire blow and backed off and let me come over because it was going that way on its own, there was no control, all I could do was try to get it stopped without hitting anything or anyone! I had it towed to the electrical shop on Saturday, so hopefully it will be running again soon. I am looking forward to seeing your new aero project progress. Such a great find with such cool history!
 
Well things are not going my way with my truck or the stock car project,the Hemi engine is still in machine shop jail,and the truck is still not fixed! I have moved onto my V code Charger project for now,I will update this project,once it gets going again!

Well I finally got some news from the engine shop. They dismantled the crate Hemi short block, and as I had suspected there were issues with it. The cam had two lobes with unusual wear on them, and all of the main and rod bearing tolerances were too tight causing accelerated wear in the short amount of time that Cummins had run the engine on the dyno! He said the bearings were not good quality bearings either. He said that I did the right thing by not running it and having it gone through as it would have surely experienced a total failure in short order. It sucks when you spend 13k for a brand new engine, and it will fail right out of the crate. He said the block is good, but he is going to true it up by line boring it,and square decking it. The crank survived without any damage because of the short run time,and the pistons and rods are fine!
 
I checked in with the engine builder again, not too much to update, except that he is finishing up another Hemi engine and says mine is next.
 
I got out in the garage tonight, have to move some stuff around. The stock car is one of the things that I have to move. My friend wants to use the lift to put the engine in his 69 383 4 speed Dart GTS.

I got some good news for the stock car last night. A friend of mine is going to make me a new rear window plug for the car. Last year I traded him a pair of California rust free Challenger rear quarter cutoffs for two window plugs for Daytona's. He gave me one plug, and is ready to start making the other one for the stock car. One of the previous owners destroyed the plug that is in the car, by cutting out the window channel frame and reinstalling it to put in flush glass. He distorted the crap out of it when he welded it back together. I have to cut the plug back out and replace it. My plan is to replace the window plug, and make a one piece window molding that incorporates the Nascar type window straps. The window will be lexan with two holes with plugs that can be removed to put the speed wrench through to adjust the suspension. I will shape the one piece window molding to fit in the window channel and the lexan will be bolted to the molding with stainless countersunk screws. This will contour the lexan so it is not just a flat looking plastic window.
 
I just spent the last 6 hours fabricating the new custom hood for the Daytona stock car. I grafted a 70 Charger hood together with a damaged 71 Charger R / T hood to come up with this one off Charger hood for the racecar! I am pretty happy with the results!

The hood will have the louvered 71 Charger insert, without the underside block off plate. The hood will be functional and will help dissapate heat from under the hood. I think it will look really cool with the louvered bulge hood and the fender scoops!

There's nothing flaming here! Just quoting the song. I survived 21 years working in a prison without anything flaming! And believe me, I have seen what flaming looks like for real in tnere!

I write this with respect to you because I really like your posts here and on the other forums. It is how the title has "Flaming" spelled wrong. :lowdown:

I spelled it that way on purpose, it gets attention! What redneck wouldn't want to drive around on public streets in a Daytona stock car! I am pleased with the way the hood came out. I like making things that no one else has ever built, and I like doing it with all factory pieces!
 
I started grinding down the welds on the new hood for the stock car. I followed Ian Rousells instructions of grinding only the welds,and not heating up the two surfaces of the two hoods that are being mated together and what he says is true. There was very little heat and distortion of the hoods.

That is the second time that I have heard that guy's name. I still don't know who he is.
