adjusting shift points on 727 trans

If my understanding is correct, it's probably in the 3/4 throttle position. It was able to move back some. The kit seems pretty straight forward. There seems like there's a lot of kits out there, I'm hoping the bouchillon performace one will fix it.

Bouchillion's works good, Lokar's works good....if you don't mind spending extra and want to use a factory rod-style try A&A Transmissions. Either way, don't drive it until you get one installed.

The Talking Torqueflites series by John Veatch jr specifically the Nov 89 Chrysler Power Mag
covers the governor
I can scan and e-mail (send me a pm) or is there a better way to distribute? or perhaps CP Mag can post a link
I edited this series for Roland but never met John that I remember
I see I also am on the masthead on a cam article in 90 which I did NOT edit- just provided data- not responsible for the way it reads.

The shift points are controlled by gov and throttle pressure. And throttle pressure is the rods (linkage) that goes from the carb to the trans and it looks like it has none. As others have said don't drive it until you fix it. With the throttle press pushed most of the way back lets hope you did not hurt the trans yet as I have seen some fry the clutches driving with no throttle press. The gov of course in inside the trans as the throttle press linkage is the only outside adjustment that can change shift points. Good luck with getting a throttle press linkage set up on it and fixing it. Hopefully your trans is still ok. Ron

Thanks, I ended up going with the lokar kit. It arrived yesterday, hopefully I can install it today.

For those reading
Stock mopar throttle pressue is 90 lbs
Stage Wedge, long ram and some others used 105 it also raises shift points
too much tears up your trans on the street
to raise shift points lighten the weights in the governor
The large weight you machine the OD about an 1/8 from each end (like a dumbbell lifter)
Small weight you drill ID
you can also use lighter spring
small differences in rear pump trans but major change around 70
do not mix and match early and late governor parts
actually may not hurt anything but really raise shift point or really lower it
I do not know if the 300 and Street Hemi parts are still available- most likely numbers have been superseded several times-
but you can make duplicates
large weight is for part throttle (it bottoms out)
small weight for top end
any questions I can check my old notes or quote from the CP mag article

I think he needs to fix his linkage problems, as he is doing, before there is a governor discussion.

Of course he does
my comment was for someone later who finds the thread
cheers
doing the governor is easy
build a spare the way you want it
drop the driveshaft and pull the tailhousing
swap governors, reassemble, test, report what you did keep track of your weights as change is proportional

Yes, the governor is about the last thing to try; usually not needed.

Got the kit, went to hook it up, realized I need a bracket. Ordering one today, along with a new oil pan + gaskets, trans pan filter + gasket, rear diff gasket for my new suregrip 8 3/4 I picked up the other day.
