Advance Auto Parts Closing 500 Stores

Saw that. How many parts stores do we need? There's like one on every corner here.

And the big box stores forced the private stores out. That is really disappointing. The one I managed was one of 3 in town. Owned by a family. Boy those were the days. Lots of fun and I learned a lot.

Too many auto parts stores already, they overbuilt.
They were trying to keep up with all the Dollar stores.
The Dollar stores were trying to keep up with all the Drug stores.
All the Drug stores were trying to keep up with all the gas stations.
Now they all are trying see who can close down the most it seems.

What a waste.

They just opened a New store in my city two months ago. They have another store across town in the same city !

Other than so many people not working on their own cars anymore, the internet parts suppliers are hard to beat and have taken a lot of business. I try and support one of the better family opened joints in town but many times they just have to order it too - why not just order it myself? I still go there for anti-freeze, washer fluid, ,filters, etc. but parts not so much.

But everything is great! Mean while thousands of other stores are closing up to…. There is no more PDR guys around here anymore as most people don’t care about small dents they are just trying to keep their cars in the road at this point…

I have 3 on one corner. But I do like Advance. Auto Zone is the highest price out of all three.
:BangHead:
I have an Auto Zone less than a mile down the street. Convenient regardless of price. I started going to O Reilly's for Wix filters and ha=ve bought a lot from them. If I'm in the middle of something I usually check them first. Napa in town has gotten crazy expensive. I don't buy much there any more. We have Arnold Motor Supply that has stores in a dozen towns around here and a good machine shop if you need one. (but we have 2 good ones here locally)

All within 20 miles of me:

Advance Auto
Auto Zone
CarQuest
NAPA
O'Reilly's (two of them)
A generically named "Auto Store". I believe they used to be a NAPA store.

Of course, don't ask them if they operate a hot tank.

Every time I go into autozone or oreillys there are never the same people working. I use the Napa that is actually farther away, because they are the same workers that know what I’m talking about without having to explain the principles of the internal combustion engine or what a brake drum is or whatever. Parts can be a little higher, but I want to keep them in business. Napa offers services that the other places never heard of. Just my opinion.

"What year?" is the first thing I hear walking up to the counter when I'm looking for a part for my 72 Cuda with a turbo A8 stroker with IRS and Tremec trans and 14" Wilwood rotors with EFI.

Sure, that will narrow down the fitment. :realcrazy:

Will prices go up or down?

I walked into NAPA today at 1:30 for front rotors and pads for the Wife's Challenger GT AWD. $259cdn / rotor and $90 for 4 pads. "We can get them here by November 18th for you!". Nice, I'll go see if Partsource (owned by Canadian Tire), or Canadian Tire has some in house. 1:45 I'm walking out the door of Partsource with the identical part # rotors for $109Cdn each and $80 for the pad set....
