Advanced Auto Torque Converter?

Can't hardly beat the price. What does "triangular low stall decal" mean? It's in both descriptions. No other mention of stall speed, though. I'd have to assume stock since its a reman unit. Do they have any with a higher stall? Say, 1000 rpm over stock? It'd probably work better with your new cam. 1900-2200ish.

i thought the 11" would have a slightly higher stall than the 12" - but who knows. I don't even know what the stock diameter is.

the b&m converter that is 12" is "the traveler," i have no idea what that is, thier 11" is a torque master 2000 or holeshot 2400 - so i'm assuming i'll have something with a slightly higher stall speed despite the "low stall" in the description. i have no idea what the decal is, i picked up the converter today and there is nothing special about it. i bought a new flexplate ($11 from advanced auto) and i assume it should bolt up no problems.

i'm gonna call Pro-King in the morning and see what the specs are, last thing i want to do is put it in and find out it is a turd.

the tech line people suck at pro-king, the guy was giving me a hard time becuase they usually only deal with companies, not the consumer. totally not willing to help me find the right converter. he also tells me "some 318s are internally balanced and some are externally balanced" depending on the crank, (mine is cast), and basically ends his "support" there.

turns out the CR10L has a 1400 stall - is that too low? i am not drag racing, i want something pleasurable to drive around town but to get up and go when i step on it. There is a 1600 stall (CR10H) but there is a difference in ring gear.

any suggestions on stall speed - or should i just go with another company like tci or b&m?

Talk to one of the techie guys at Summit. Or even call B&M or TCI directly. Compare what they recommend to what you know about the pro-king unit, which sounds like a stock replacement to me. Nothing wrong with that, either, unless it's not what you want.
I want to change my converter too, but I don't enough specs on the planned engine mods to even ask a sensible quest. Let us know what they say.

All LA 318's are internally balanced.....and I'm pretty sure all poly teens are too.

according to pro-king, if it has a steel crank, then it isn't. but it does't matter since i have a cast crank.

i'm returning it, will probably go with something from B&M or TCI. i'll talk to them later this week and see what they suggest.

I believe Cranky over ProKing's phone monkey.
At what point in history did a 318 need a forged crank?

360s are externally balanced. Maybe the phone Guy was just confused

i know some 273's came with a forged crank, and i've read you can interchange it with the 318 crank. Not sure if some 318's came with forged crank, but maybe in the cop cars or something, you never know...

i spoke to B&M, they are saying based on my cam and the weight of the car, i should be looking into the 3000 rpm stall - regardless of the purpose of the car. seems kind of ridiculous since the cam spec sheet said i could reuse the stock converter. and i really thought it drove fine with the stock converter. but that was a 904 and i have a 727. thus the need for a new converter.

i am prob just going to go either 2000 or 2400 stall speed at most. according to B&M, i could do that but would be heating up the fluid more than average. advice appreciated!

poly teens and truck teens had steel cranks. steel cranks were in 318s 64 to 71
