I purchased a 68 383 Block Fresh bored .030 and it came with the Aero max Indy Heads with 2.14 1.88 Valves They were never bolted on i was told to buy the KB 400 pistons which i did I also bought a comp cams XE268 -H Cam - Edelbrock 750 carb RPM Performer intake, Are these heads any good with the Larger Valves they dont have any porting ,The 383 is going in a 70 dart ,I am not sure what stall converter i will need , 98 percent street car 323 gears 26 tall tire
Suggestions Please

Bolt them on and go if you are on a budget it will run great.

If no budget then you know the deal.... more money...equals more power..

Thats what i needed to hear, I am on a budget but was reading that the stock valve size might work better ,i am not mechanically inclined so i try to get some knowledge from this very knowledgable forum.
Thanks

I would assume that is good the power band starting lower ?

I use that as a guideline I'm sure if you have an amazing cylinder head or way more or less cubes the powerband will change a bit but generally speaking the cam manufacturers powerband ratings are pretty spot on.

I just feel that people generally over converter their street cars and over cam them too and then belly ache about poor manners or performance

Yes

Yes i like close to stock with a true 9-9.5.1 compression and definately dont want to over stall

If it were me I'd at least pull the valve springs and lap the valves before installing them. I've heard to many stories about poorly ground seats and valves on different brands, good insurance for a little extra work.

Thanks i`ll call machine shop Monday and tell him to do that .

the only down side to those heads are when big valveing the ports have to be properly re-worked for any performance gain. no quench in the heads or quench domes on the pistons will lead to pump gas issues. i'm going to do a 383 for a friend shortly and will use speed-pro L2315F pistons with the '906's keeping comp ratio around 9:1 for pump gas.

383's like original valve size, with a real good valve job. Those big valves will likely have a negative effect on torque curve if left unported. Like Lew said above those kb400s pistons arent the best, your better off with the speed pros 2315s or Kb 162s with a closed chambered head (516 or 915s)and building for quench.

but since you have everything and your on a budget there is zero reason to change it now. I would look at some porting on those heads if your builder offers and budget allows. I would also highly recommend to pay for balancing the entire rotating assembly.

I have heard some mixed reviews on the aerohead cylinder heads especially in the valve guide area, either way your doing the right thing by having someone else check there work.
