I'm looking for a semi-cheap floor shifter for my '65, its a early 70's 904. Any suggestions?

I just sourced all the parts to put the original console/floor shift in my column shift car. If you're patient and watch/wait you can get a good usable console for approximately $150.00, the floor brackets for $50.00 and the shift linkage + mechanisms for around $50-$75. Also if you want to delete the column shift lever you're looking at $50-$75 for the necessary parts, $100+ if you buy a whole column.

Your luck could be better than mind depending on your luck and any swap meets near you. I was forced to use ebay and the classifieds section on this forum.

I have a $135 TCI fastgate in mine. I like it. Obviously the later 904 isn't cable operated valvebody so you can run Hurst, B&M, Cheetah, or whatever you like. I had B&M and Hurst in My car before the TCI and I found the TCI easier to install and adjust. Summit or Jegs or even Fleabay have lots of shifters.

Thats my problem, I'm not finding any linkage operated shifters...

Could I switch the valvebody from my '65 904 to my '73? Then use a cable operated shifter?

All the aftermarket shifters use a cable. However, the 66 and up trans has an external shift arm on it that the cable hooks to. The shift lever in the trans sticks out of the case and the arm mounts to it. The cable has a threaded end on it that is used for adjustments. The 65 and older factory trans/shifters had cables that ran inside the case to the valve body and tailshaft. The valve bodies are not interchangeable.
