"Aircleaner to oil pan"

Ok Mopar brothers. I recently bought an engine from a guy that stated in the add. "This is a complete running motor for your project car. I am selling it aircleaner to oil pan." Now I find out that it does not include alternator, water pump, pulleys, belts, or fan. Am I wrong for thinking all that was included? What exactly does"Aircleaner to oil pan" mean in the car world?

He is not from B Bodies. It was a local Craigslist add.

This is a complete running motor

To me that means that if it were dropped into a car, nothing else would be required, apart from connecting hoses, pipes, wiring etc. No water pump does not a complete engine make.

"Air cleaner to oilpan" includes water pump, but not necessarily pulleys, alternator, belts, etc.

"Complete running motor" includes everything but rubber hoses, IMO.

He's butchered the terminology, and you can use that to negotiate a suitable price.

Air cleaner to oil pan is a compete motor. Far as leverage, you have none. He owns it, you don't. You want it, you pay. No money has been exchanged or an agreement on price. Throw him an offer and see if he bites.

OEM water pumps are a dime a dozen but he probably used all that stuff on the replacement motor. That doesnt mean the motor he is selling is not worth it. If you build a big block from scratch you will spend thousands. I havent seen anyone sell accessories and brackets with a used motor.

Research the cost of all the parts you will need like brackets and stuff. Go see it in person, bring a breaker bar with a 1 1/4" socket to turn it over, pull a valve cover at least. Make an offer with the extra cost in mind. No transaction is final until money has been exchanged.

In my opinion all you are missing is the water pump. However.......it is not my opinion that counts, it is yours. If I needed all the other things, that is probably what I would expect to find on the engine. That is what you explain to the seller before you pay for the engine.

Well, if he kept the water pump, I hope he left you the torque converter flex plate and motor mount brackets.
I wouldn't trust an old water pump anyway.
Winter will be here before you know it, and the seal always gives out of a February 17th when you are 30 miles from home.

Look at what you are getting in the deal. Is it worth it? Don't piss the guy off if it is worth what he's asking.
