So there is the Girl in Alaska
*why she couldn't stay in Minnesota where I knew people to help me get a job.
I am an Australian aircraft mechanic. 5 years experience. Just got my American A&P.
Anyone able to help me finding a job in Juneau or nearby?. Or anyone know someone who can help?
I work on small aircraft, piston engine stuff. Lots of timber and fabric stuff.
No I can't find a girl closer to home, also its harder to collect b bodies here in Australia.
I know I might not be able to get the girl but have no chance getting her here in Sydney. Also means I can get more cars. Thinking a convertible RR this time though.
Thank you for your help guys.

I don't think that a convertible will do you much good in Alaska.

Anchorage area would be allot easier, or the interior
there's lots of bush pilots & smaller planes in all of Alaska
main mode of transportation outside of the Fairbanks & Anchorage
{even Juneau or Ketchikan}

it's not very easy to get cars {let alone keep them nice} & especially collector cars in Alaska,
they pretty much all, come from somewhere else 95%-99% of the time, the lower 48 states
& even "more so on an Alaskan southeastern Island like Juneau",
yeah it is the capitol, but not all that big either...
Alaska isn't a great place for them {especially convert.} lots of rust issues
especially on the islands or even western Alaska, salt, snow, rain, crap roads = rust/rott
Yes they do still have some there, it's just not the norm, more of an exception to the rules...
You need a heated/climate controlled garage too, or they will be junk fast...
Juneau is milder than the interior, but it can still be harsh too, it is an Island...

good luck with the job search & move,
I hope she's worth it too...

Can you work on a crab fishing boat, great pay.

about 3 moths a year it's relatively nice, 70*s+f
& aside from the pesky freaken' mosquitoes...LOL
When the sun is out {not behind clouds or rain}
for as much as 19 hrs & 49 min. {In Anchorage}
light at midnight & beyond, more the further north you are too,
but the winter it's bad/cold not great for any cars let alone a Vert,
with 19 hrs & 49 min. of darkness & sub zero temps too...

Its not about how practical the convertible is, I just want one.
Also the rust issues do not bother me. I bought a St Louis car that lived outside its entire life. I have more problems with New AMD panels getting damaged before shipment then the rust
I am aware of the conditions in Juneau.
The weather will not be a problem as its not much colder then our winter here.
No I won't be able to work on anything else, would be impossible for me to get a visa due to lack of experience
My real problem is the girl is in Juneau not Fairbanks.
I believe the girl is worth it,
But I am 23, Aren't they all worth it at this age?
Please keep the questions coming.
Any potential help is a great thing
Thank you

I used to live in anchorage. Frankly I thought the weather was warm there compared to Minneapolis/St Paul where I'm originally from. Don't know much about Juneau - I'm surprised Sydney gets that cold in the winter. Does the young lady know you're coming? You ought to be able to find work on bush planes and small aircraft up there. Plenty of them. Make sure you're really sure you want to follow a woman that direction - the record books are full of those kind of romances that just don't work out. Convertible??

Your story reminds me of a guy I know whose girlfriend was transferred to Phoenix for her work. After a few months of being Mr. Lonely he applied for a transfer to Phoenix and left Seattle to be with her. He was working in the Phoenix area in midsummer as an outside construction lineman. In a few weeks he was back in Seattle looking for his old job back. He was good lineman so we took him back, but he was lucky. He told me "there's no woman in the world worth working outside in 115 degree heat." He never saw her again. Doesn't necessarily relate to your situation, but it's something to think about. Best to you whatever you decide.

It will in Juneau. Five months out of the year. Can't drive very far though, as the only ways into Juneau are by ferry and by air.

I was going to move to America anyway had a few things to finish first (finished december 2014 met the girl july 2014)
Meeting her only changed which snow state I was moving to. No juneau does regularly get a bit colder then where I am by about 25 degrees. But it doesn't get as hot so its better for me.

I think I'd be tempted to move for her too. Just think Alaska is a bit radical. I wish you good luck my friend.

Don't do it! Speaking from personal experience, moving for a girl is never a good choice (the question "why won't she move for me" has to be nagging at you already). Be yo' own mayn!

She is beautiful. But if you're not in a committed relationship with her already, I would hesitate to move. Then again, you're young and can look at it as an adventure.

Budnicks; Actually, Juneau is on the Alaskan mainland. It is across from Douglas Island and there are no roads in or out, like has been said, due to the rugged, mountainous terrain. It's planes, boats or ferries. Great country if you're an outdoorsman.
I wish the O/P all the best and I hope it works out for you...
