This spring has brought about some major changes for my 1964 Polara 500. It was one of those projects that started with a small vision and then ballooned from there. The initial plan was for a 500 cubic inch motor based on a 400 block, CNC ported 3068 ProComp heads, roller cam, 850 carb, MSD ignition, TTI headers and X-pipe exhaust, etc. Which seemed like enough. But with the ability of the motor (550 hp @ 5200 rpm & 625 #'s torque (it carries 600 #'s from 2200 -5000) we decided to go a little further. We went with a smaller roller cam due to the use of the car (street driven, air conditioning, power brakes, power steering) and using 91 octane pump gas.
It has the original transmission so we went through it and installed a bolt in rear Sprague and re-did the clutches. Had a torque converter custom made for it. Replaced the 4.10 gears in the rear with 3.55's (street driven car). Got rid of the BF Goodrich Silvertown 285/70-15 tires and went with Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S 295/55-15's.
The entire build was performed by Robbie Barnts in Diller Nebraska. He did a tremendous job for me. Very professional, kept informed of the progress through out the entire build. I would highly recommend him and plan on utilizing his services for future builds.
I'm going over this weekend to pick it up. I feel like a little kid right before Christmas.
