I don't like it. California is bent out of shape that I had my box truck here, so I need to move it to Arizona. That means I need something else to drive back with. I can hook my open trailer to the box, and drag my daily driver (about 3700 lbs) easily. But I don't wanna do that. It would leave my trailer stuck in Arizona, and I want it here for my California bracket car. (Racetrack is 15 miles away in Cali, 125 miles away in arizona)
The other thought, is to put my 2500hd on the trailer so I can bring the trailer back with it. It should BARELY fit on the trailer, and I know the box can pull it, BUT.....
the tires on the trailer are rated for 1875 lbs each, four of em. I'm pretty sure the trailer itself is around 1000 lbs, and I know the HD is around 6500, or maybe a bit more. ( I did use the trailer behind my 2500hd to tow my 454 dually to AZ, but I think it's around 5000 lbs.
Bottom line, I'm on the ragged edge, if not over , for load on my tires. Do I risk it, to save two commute trips from socal to AZ, or do I simply eat the expense and labor and carry the driver? (Roughly 250 miles thru California desert, one way.) I travel EARLY in the morning from Cali to AZ, 2am to 7am.

Can you put a hitch on your daily with the intent of pulling just an open trailer and never any real load? I have a class IV hitch on our Honda CRV primarily to carry a bike rack, but it works for moving an empty or very lightly loaded car trailer around too.

Find a ride and offer to pay for gas and services. You'll at least spend the gas money yourself whatever you drive back.

Not sure where your going to and from exactly, but is a plane ticket a viable option?
Laughlin/Bullhead to Pomona ca.
Probably would have to take a flight to Vegas, then Ontario Airport. Probahly cheaper to drive it twice. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Daily is a camaro ss, I think I'll pass on putting a hitch on it. An little suv would have solved the problem.

Just had a thought. Best friend has a F150 Ford she's not using, probably weighs 2000 lbs less than my diesel. Could easily drag the trailer back with it. Maybe I need to make a call......

What's the deal is it registered in Az ? (probably smarter)
so they don't like it being/parked, driven & seen here (SoCal) all the time ?
driving around Ca with Az plates ?

not going into too much political the thread will get shut down

The barrowing the ladies F100 truck (must be an old truck) sound like a decent option
if she'll allow it & if it's sound enough to make the trip back,
check tire brakes trans oil etc., you say best friend...
Might sway the decision...

I don't have the balls/gal/imposing on them,
to ask someone to use/barrow their vehicle,
for over 250+ miles 'each way' trip, even if it's on a trailer 1/2 of it
in a different state even
car/truck that I don't own, I'm not fully (?) insured in, if not a girlfriend/family etc.

The box is registered in AZ. We got it for a bargain from a Cali company, cause it can't be registered in california any more.(every two years, two more years of commercial trucks age out, and can't be registered) It's eventually gonna be used to move three or four housholds from Cali to New digs in Arizona.
It was at my house behind a gate/fence, and I'm not even sure they could see the plates, just assumed it was a "commercial vehicle".
I guarantee az is not gonna care when I park it in the back yard.

Edit: pretty sure the F150 is okay, my friend runs an auto repair shop.

Pictures would help.
What is the 2500 truck? Make model etc...

Why not invite a buddy to follow you...you pay any expenses, then road trip them back? Someone you know just might be up for an adventure.

Thanks guys, I think just posting about my question has provided the answer. I really, REALLY don't want a blowout on the trailer at 3:30 in the morning in the middle of the cali desert.
Gonna do the safe and sane solution, and just make the four trips...... Unless I can talk my friend out of her F100, lol.

Can you get higher rated tires for the trailer?
Possibly.... but a couple tanks of Arizona gas/diesel is much cheaper! I think I can get to AZ and back, empty trailer one way, on one tankful in the pickup. And the trailer tires as existing are almost brand new.

Just a thought, drive the truck to Arizona and get a cheap rental car, one way, to drive back to California.

That's an excellent suggestion. Gonna look into that this morning when the local Enterprise opens up.
I'm betting one way INTO california is cheaper than one way OUT!
