Another Howdy from TEXAS

Hi Y'all-

I hope you can welcome another new member from TEXAS 'cause just this past Sunday I took delivery of my first "American muscle car"; a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner! I will post pictures tonight after work. I spent all of Sunday night just sitting in my outbuilding looking at it and beginning the teardown. It is in need of a complete restoration, but hey, it's mine! Hell I even took the pistol grip shifter into work on Monday to show around!

So yeah, I am a big fan and am glad to finally have found what I was searching for, despite its present condition. I look forward to learning from you more experienced B body folk!

Have tried to post during the past couple of days, but having issues. Reported it to the admin...possibly an issue with IE9. I run a vB forum of my own and am not experiencing these problems, but am running vB 4.1.3. Anyway, this is a test post. 6pktgo - thanks, I did try to post pics last night, but to no avail...

Thanks for the welcome, I am glad to have a good reason to join your forum. It's kinda funny but I feel like I have reached the summit of a high mountain or something, perhaps even Everest, because the wait to own my slice of American muscle has been a rather long one. It has been about 5 years now, and I never thought it would take that long; but it has. As a regular working Joe, I simply cannot afford the high dollar variants of these beasts, not that there is anything wrong with that. But I can't do it, so I needed to find one that required a lot of sweat equity (if you will), something that I can offer lots of. ;-) Other opportunities came and went, but they just weren't right for one reason or another. But this one came along and it was the right opportunity, well for me anyway, and so I jumped on it, despite the fact that I am in the middle of another full blown restoration and am swamped with work. But I'm glad that she's sitting in my outbuilding and that she's all mine!

In the end, this opportunity is even better than I could have imagined because it has many of the items that I was hoping for when I began my search:

1) 1970 Plymouth Road Runner
2) 4 speed manual
3) Factory bucket seats
4) Pistol grip shifter
5) Air grabber hood

I would have preferred the 426 hemi or the 440 six-pack of course, but mine is a numbers matching 383 block, so that's a good thing.

Anyway, it is in need of a complete restoration. Practically every panel needs replacing, especially the rear quarters, where some lame *** thought it ok to fill in a dent with about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of filler, but don't get me started. So I plan on buying them new, cutting out the old crap and welding in the new stuff. Good thing I learned how to weld growing up. 'Been a while, so I am out of practice, but I'll pick it back up. But I digress.

BTW, I have begun the teardown of this restoration project, so would it be ok to open a new restoration thread in whatever area is most appropriate for such a thread (and where would that be so that I keep the panels aligned, if you will)?
