I was at the car wash yesterday, and a woman and her kids were cleaning her late model Gran Prix a couple stalls down. I had just finished vacuuming out the car when the mom and one of her daughters walked past my car while going to the change machine. I had just pulled the car into the wash bay when the little girl, about seven or eight I would guess, came waltzing in and said "I really like your car." I told her thank you, and she started walking all the way around it, touching all the roadrunner decals as she did.

Her mom was standing at the rear of the car, and I thought she was ticked because I was letting her daughter look the car over when she wanted to get back to cleaning hers, but she didn't say anything so I let the kid keep looking while I rolled up the windows and got ready to wash. When I opened the driver's door, the girl asked if she could see inside, so I looked at her Mom, who nodded okay, and I let the girl climb into the seat and check out the steering wheel, the dash, and everything else.

While she was doing that, I walked over to where her Mom, and the wash controls were, and her Mom said "sorry to hold you up, but she's very shy and rarely talks to anyone she isn't friends with, and she's never shown any interest in a car before. I'm kind of shocked."

I walked back over to the driver's door and told her I was just a little older than she was the first time I saw one of these cars, and maybe one day she'd have one too, and she just gave me a huge smile! So if in 20 years or so, some gal comes on the forum and says she's just gotten a Roadrunner and she's wanted one ever since she saw one at a car wash in Orange Park back in 2012... you can tell her that was me! :)

That's a cool story. When I drag mine out and end up in neighborhoods where kids are out playing its always the same deal. Shouts of I love your car! Cars all look alike today for the most part. I think when they see something with some character they take notice and aren't shy about it.

I had that happen a few weeks ago when I drove my car one of the first times after the new paint job on my '68. 3 junior high girls shouting "I love your car!" It's really cool when the kids show interest. Some of the younger kids just don't get it. The ones that do may have a parent or relative into cars and those with real smarts just gravitate to the cars on their own like the story you shared. When my 2 jr. high nephews first saw my car a few years ago they said it looked old and ugly. When I asked what car they would like to have the most they told me a Honda Civic with ground effects. (FACE-PALM!):BangHead:

Nice work, Bruz. As Hagerty and Mopar Muscle keep telling us, we have to get the "young guns" into the hobby. I was at a red light this summer and a group of five or six boys, probably ages 8-10, came walking across the road with their skateboards. They stopped in front of my car and just kind of gaped at it, and then the smiles broke out and the thumbs went up. "Detroit Muscle!" one of them said. "American Steel!" another said. I gave 'em a meep-meep on the horn and an extra-loud takeoff when the light turned green. :)

That is a cool story. Kind of reminds me of when I was a kid way back in the 50's. I used to go over to the neighbor's garage and watch him and his buddies work on his Model A rod. They were cool about having a kid around and I learned a lot about wrenching on cars from those guys. It's something you never forget.

I'll even hold my sarcasm for this one nice story. ;)

What a cool story! And good for you for letting her explore.

it is great to see some youth show interest in our hobby! I work in a High School, and once in a while i will drive her in. I park in an alley by the cafeteria, so no parents can "door ding" me. The kids usually go to the window and watch...especially when i have the cut outs opened:headbang:

Bruzilla, That is a cool unique story! Great to hear them and know its a big possibility's that it could happen, I know 20 years is some time, but i have a better idea. Why don't you stick in hear with us for 20 more years so if this happens, you can be the one saying "Hey, I remember you!".

very cool

:iamwithstupid: Bruzilla your a good man, that's a great "feel good story", I have 3 girls & a son {they are all grown up now}, I know how shocked some people can get, especially when the "young girls", would take interest in old Detroit Iron/Muscle, Hot Rods or Race Cars, but I remember when good people like you, that would let them, sit in race cars, cars in the grocery store parking lots & cars at shows etc., the real car people would understand & usually would most of the time let them check it out, they would talk to them about my cars & rattle off a bunch of stuff about them, making me proud & usually to the amazement of the other owners, they were also all taught to have respect for other people & their stuff & to always "ask first" {to say "thank you" when done}, before touching anyone else's cars, most people would get a "kick out of it", that's for sure... I love it when younger people & especially girls, that have interest in older cars, not just the BMW's, Benz's, SUV's, Miata's or many rice rockets, it shows there is hope for the younger generations still... Good for you, she will remember that day I'm sure, just like we all did, in our 1st experience with Detroit Muscle & love for cars...

Hopefully she'll also say "I've been a Steelers fan since seeing that Steelers Roadrunner too!" :)

She may just be !! as long as she doesn't see them, in those horific Trow Back Uni's, OMFG what about some FUGLY *** BUMBLE BEE UNI'S

That's a great story. I hope you at least let her hear what the horn sounds like!!

Of course! You haven't been in a roadrunner until you've beep-beeped the horn. :)
