Any lift off hood dislikes

I don't own an A12, but do have a 68 Dart with a real LO23 hood. At 77, I now need help getting it on and off. I haven't weighed it, but have never considered it particularly light. I know it's probably about half the weight of it's counterpart in steel.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say racers are a little less caring about their stuff than the "street" guys. A racer's objective is to go fast and win - if it means the hood blows over while he's checking valve lash, so be it. On the other hand if a "street" guys car is dead he's like "don't let those jumper cables touch the fenders" !!!

Bet me. My stuff has 12 years and 1100 passes on it. You can count the scratches on one hand.

I don't think I've ever felt compelled to open the hood on any car in my life when someone
simply asked "what's it got?"
It's an easy question to just answer verbally, right?
Open hoods are for car shows or when the critter needs serviced....

That said, the couple of Six Pack cars I've owned with lift-offs were just that - lift-off hoods.
A simple matter to do by yourself if it's a well-made one - and it really needs to be a well-made one.
I always carried a quilt in the trunk for those times I needed to remove the hood and I'd put it up
on the roof. Never had a problem with that.

Of course, I was considerably younger then - old guy me might have a different opinion these days.

OK, well this is ABSOLUTELY a matter of opinion. How bad do you want an A12 car. I wanted one REALLY REALLY bad.

I have a real A12 Bee and I really don't consider the hood removal/install to be a PITA. Honestly, I feel lucky to have that car. If you won the lotto, would you complain about paying the taxes? If you were elected President, would you complain about wearing a tie? If you're lucky enough to get a real lift off hood car, you shouldn't complain about the "inconvenience" of the hood. The first time you open that 6 pack, you'll forget all about your concerns over the hood. Seriously.

I use my car for 2 purposes: general cruising AND local car shows. For me, you know what the worst part is? When I go to a show, I like to set the hood up on the prop rods. People are always willing to help but they always put their thumbs on the hood when guiding the hood on the rods. Drives my F***** nuts but I can't say anything because they are helping me. I just say Thank you. Honestly, for me that's the worst part.

I'm 55 too and I'm not a build guy. But for me, removal and install are very simple. 1 man job. No problem. I always store the hood on the roof using a VERY soft, thick blanket. I owned the car for 8 years now. No scratches.

Buy the car. You won't regret it.

I'm restoring my 69 Dart right now. I bought the Hemi style lift off hood years ago. I'm still going to keep it. I'm tall so taking it off by myself is not an issue. Plus there is the wow factor.

Loved my lift off hood. Not too heavy or difficult to remove or install by myself.
