Chime in if you are a Fire Fighter, Police Officer, or EMT! Thank you for your service!

Paid on call firefighter - 22 years and counting.

I left the Wells County Sheriff's department in 2001 due to medical problems, and after I recovered I was offered my old position back but I declined since my surgery rendered me incapable of running. They used to bug me on occasion to return, but now that I'm 65 I feel I'm too old now!

Sergeant with Des Moines police department (Iowa). 25 years in July. Served on Patrol (all watches), SWAT, Airport unit, Mounted patrol (horsey type) and currently assigned to our NBSD unit. (Neighborhood Based Service Delivery).

Thanks for the nod, it's been a rare week and that ended it on an upbeat note. :icon_thumleft:

Paramedic for 16 years; worked in Syracuse, NY, Philadelphia, PA (fire department) and Sioux Falls, SD (Flight medic); now I work as a Physician Assistant in a ED.

Always nice to be recognized. Thanks!

Just a quick nod to MoparEd. As a MI resident, the MSP are really a class-act. I was a hot-rodder, and a punk kid back in the day (before I joined the Army and got my head straight). My many interactions with them have always been professional. They are very tough, but also professional. If you are straight with them, they would usually cut you a break. They would never bust your balls like the local cops do. I don't have much respect for the local small-town cops, but the MSP have always been professional. They never gave me ticket that I didn't deserve. Good folks, and I respect them.

Small world, nelsontoddpa! My parents both grew up in Philadelphia and a lot of my Mom's cousins were/are Philly firefighters/police officers. I still have an old aluminum fire helmet (circa 1960s) given to me by her cousin Elwood - who I'd visit at the firehouse sometimes when we were in Philly. We lived in the Albany, NY area back then. Not only that, but I went to college in Sioux Falls - small world indeed.
