It may have been previously mentioned but if anyone wants to read an interesting book about tank warfare in Europe in WWII, you should checkout Spearhead published in 2019. It chronicles a Sherman tank crew and specifically the gunner, who later are assigned one of the first delivered Pershing tanks. It’s the tank and crew that was filmed by an Army cameraman in the battle with a Panther at the Cathedral in Cologne, Germany.

My father was with Patton's 3rd Army, 4 Armored, 126th Ordnance Battalion. One day Colonel Abrams came in with his Sherman Firefly and has a German 20mm machine gun strapped to the back. Instructs them to mount it on his tank, they tell him he'll draw fire the moment he shoots it. He insists, they follow orders and away he goes with his big gun mounted on the tank. A little while later he comes back and the paint is all gouged up. He tells them to get that god damn gun off his tank as when he opened fire every .50 cal opened up on him. He left a short time later with a .50 reinstalled.

Recently received my Tigerfibel in the mail form the UK. It’s a direct English translation of the tech manual given to Tiger crews in WW2. Pretty cool!
