Microsoft is giving away a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.

Anybody do this, yet? Thoughts, experiences?

The only draw back I see is no Windows Media Center for over the air (OTA) TV recording.

I haven't done it yet,
I also have seen a few articles about security issues too...

they/microsoft claim we have a year from notification to get the "free" upgrade to "10"

My bros. in-law is checking it out, he's far more "puter" savvy than me,
he's a longtime IT guy & Tech service guy.... I'll wait tell he says OK

I'm not sure when support for windows 7 pro, which I have & really like, will cease...

I upgraded my hp last weekend. Normally I wait before upgrading anything. It took about 12h to download in my busy household but the upgrade left the desktop intact and only the speaker settings needed tweaking. I like the start menu compared to 8. So far so good.

This was a paid message from Microsoft.

I did the upgrade, works well, a lot better then Windows 8. I use media center as well, it does ask the question if you are using MMC during the install. I switched to a DNLA server software, free (www.emby.com) as I moved to an xobx one, but if your still on the xbox 360 I would research more before upgrading, can't lose MMC, gotta watch your shows!

My attitude with computers is; if it aint broke, don't fix it.

yeah !!
I like mine the way it is too,
seems way too many ways to sell more product, security software etc.

seems as soon as you get use to one operating system
the new ones come out or support is stopped...

such is life
with all the upgrades BS

My mom is still running Windows XP on her old computer which they no longer have any support for so I might up grade hers to 10 and see if I like it before doing mine. I have 7 and can work it good.

My brother called me two days ago to say STOP...do not install it yet. My Win 7 works fine for a dying laptop, so I probably will wait until I need a new machine. Who knows...Win 13 might be up by then? :toothy10:

W-10 has a feature that will automatically update weather you want to or not. Big Bro is taking over and soon they will be watching everything that you click, use a search term that they don't like and the whole room will light up with your name on it!

F#$%ING ICON ON MY7 keeps coming back telling me to reserve it which I have already done but they wont let me have it yet fucktards

I should have kept my XP Pro.....my puter worked very well. I have 7 on it and while it's ok, it's not near to my liking as the old system.

Upgraded to W-10 and now back to 8.1. Had issues with Youtube and vids on FBBO, wouldn't keep me logged in on any of my sites, IE quit working right in the middle of watching some Mopar **** - hate it when that happens!!!! Getting acclimated to my smart phone was a hell of a lot easier. Now I can get back to the 66 Belv project that has issues I can deal with.

I'm still on Vista, runs perfectly. Might get a Surface though to replace my Blackberry Playbook (which no longer gets any love from Blackberry).

Like I always say...

If you are not paying for a product, you are the product.

Beware "free" upgrades my friends.

It's only free to upgrades from 7 and 8. Otherwise, it's $119 for a new installation.

There are online guides to show how to turn off all the background programs.

It's supposed to be the final Windows. They will just issue updates to Windows 10 without changing the name.

I'm still using Vista on my desktop too, and if it was up to me I would still be using XP. I had a laptop that had 8 on it and I hated it. When the laptop crapped out it and the W8 went in the dumpster right where it belongs.
