Anyone ever see a "-S" cast block?

Educate me, what do other letters if used indicate?
I opened in a new tab and zoomed, that casting revision number sure looks like a '9' to me...

Am I wrong to first assume a "9" should mimic an upside down "6", in the casting number, which it does not?

I dunno....it dosent look closed like a "9" to me...
I gave my opinion, which is that it still looks like a crusty-*** 9 on my computer screen...but okay, the "-S" stands for "special" which means it had 25% thicker walls and main saddles, and and a nickel/iron content that was 60-70% harder than any other block Chrysler cast (according to Gheylen Govier), improved cooling designs, and was good for at least 30-50 more HP than previous castings....

The - 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 are just casting cavity numbers. That one is a 9..

I'm lucky, last Friday she and I shared the best chocolate cake ever and she blew all the candles out on her 96th Birthday, she also reminded me I was special, if so, I suspect I know where it came from.My mom never said that to me because.....

Are they just numbering or marking for the progression of the casting molds over time?

Each sand cast station gets a "cavity" number. Otherwise if they had a quality issue they'd be scrapping every block vs say just -6...

The back story I read years back was the sand-casting molds degraded over time in use, and as they wore out and got replaced a new rendition got the next higher number in the progression, and the thinking in the hobby was lower numbers were likely more exact castings as per design than higher numbers, and therefore more sought after.
Your sharing here obviously is much different. I am making no judgment here.
The back story was wrong. If pattern #8 was showing up with issues,, they'd make a new #8.

Thank you, be easy I guess to confirm by comparing casting dates to mold numbers if anyone had enough blocks and was so inclined.
it might also drop the price of a few old blocks out there sitting on the shelf.
