Anyone in LA ? be safe

Haven't been able to stop snow storms, earthquakes, or hurricanes either.

These fires started in mountain areas, build in size, then and spread to nearby regular residential areas.

They aren't one house fire in the middle of a suburb.

Understood, but in my mind we should have some defense mechanisms.

It probably didn't help that a fleet of water bombers was grounded because some idiot was flying a drone in the area and struck one of the fire fighting aircraft.

Yes. Larger fire breaks, reduced vegetation zones, replace high flammable trees.

These homes nestled inside of mountain sides have barrancas and small valleys full of brush. Fires use these as capillary networks to spread.

I don't think people in the late 1800's or early 1900's built so many homes nestled in these woodland areas. Back then they were vacation small homes for hunting and getting away. Back then they knew it was dangerous.

As time went on it got a little less dangerous with full time utilities, fire vehicles, fire fighting tech, etc. But it was a false sense of security.

I heard one super scooper was damaged from a drone.

Didn't hear about a fleet grounded.
Yes, one airplane was damaged. The rest of the fleet was grounded until it could be determined that the restricted airspace was free of any other drones or problems.

That was a Canadian plane that was sent down to help out.

Save the smelt! 117 million gallon reservoir empty!
Well, at least the looters have something new to do...

Another person arrested for arson, too...

Like I said, CA folks get all the natural disasters. Fires, floods, landslides, earthquakes....
One of the two mega-scoopy firefighting airplanes grounded because some MORON hit it with their drone....
I just saw a report that our wonderful Canadian neighbors are sending something like that to help, though.

That was a plane from Quebec that was hit by a drone.

Ok, that is not near those large fires.

This is at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium about 4 blocks from the Santa Monica police station, City Hall etc.

And they have water in LA.

This YouTuber is sensationalizing and not putting real context to this for views. Then the New York Post says it's downtown Los Angeles and 3 sentences later says it's in Santa Monica. New York Post... always noted for great reporting !!

They need to bring this bad boy out.

I don't think it's airworthy any longer, and has been donated to a museum. One of its engines was removed and used on its sister Philippine Mars to send it to its Arizona destination last month. I'm not sure if it ever got there, further engine problems aborted the first flight.

I'm pretty sure that the last time Hawaii Mars was used in fire fighting service in B.C. was the summer of 2015. Fuel cost back then was $5,000 per hour.

I've seen reports for possible arson all over that chunk of the state...
Ain't the first time for wildfires there though. Won't be the last, either.
