Interesting all those ign boxes combination tables. Didn't know those differences being so determinated between boxes. Shame is not valid nowdays anymore LOL

So true and they suck. All I deal with is re 1990 stock, I have a tester and no fails so far, new ones 50/50 so I do not even bother with them. I just get them in when I buy out places of ignition parts.

Thanks Dave. Kind of touched this on Fabo in the Coffee thread. Tons of variations and a lot of junk aftermarket around also, a lot with fake transistors. All I use is old stuff in the distributors and electronics. New stuff it absolute junk with a few exceptions.

could you explain a fake transistor please, I'm slow today!

It is not hooked up, just there. Some boxes use a small chip inside and it is full of potting to make it look real. USUALLY the real transistors are marked Motorola, RCA or prestolight. Think you can see it in the pics I have in that link.

okay so your saying the chips aren't as reliable as the transistor! potting is good, I know we had a lot of problem with merc. ecu's before potting came along, vibration/shockwaves were a killer in offshore racing!

I cannot find it at all. Went on a few ages, think we all got into it different combos, real and fake transistors, good and bad boxes etc. I should have bookmarked it and did not!

I posted a couple pics above. The potting material has silica mixed with it and the board doesnt touch the heat sink at all. They are there for looks only. Also why they burn up. No heat dissipation.
