at what point is it a sickness?

Hell, I just spent $1500 in the sound system and I haven't installed it yet. You just have a mild cold compared to some in this hobby. Take two aspirin and order some parts in the morning.

I think we have all been there. You buy one thing and all of a sudden it snowballs and you are on a first name basis with the UPS delivery guy. I always remember Props statement how his BB stroker build turned his bank account into a funeral pyre.

LOL! Yes sir. Think there was lay-off's at the bank after moving all the money out of there.

It could be worse....You could be blowing all your money and have absolutely nothing to show for it. Look at some of the guys around here. They blow all there money on hooker's and cigar's, and live out of their 40 some year old cars. :coffee:

Some people call it a sickness (not me), others call it a labor of love. I knew when I bought my cars years ago what I wanted to do with them. Our cars could be bought cheap way back when. The most I paid for 1 of my cars was $1000 and I drove it for years. I paid $150 for my RR back in 1989 and drug it out of a cornfield. It has been with me thru 2 divorces, raising 5 kids, and then paying child support. Now I have the means to bring her back to life. wish it was earlier, but that's life. I don't ever plan on selling the RR, so resale does not figure into the equation on what $$$$$$$$ I have in it. It won't be a show car or trailer queen, but I will be just as proud to drive it just the same. The other members that have already done their cars and the ones that are still working on theirs have given me new light to get mine done. In the end, we can hold our heads high when the car is done and say we belong to an elite group that is keeping this hobby alive.

Amen, my Brother!

My problem is I never get rid or my cars. I could care less what they are worth because that's not why I do it. I bought my first Road Runner (my 73) as my first car. OK, I did technically get rid of it - I gave it to my son, who proudly drives it every day now. My 1960 Corvette was purchased as a basket case in 1988 - I could never afford that car now.

Finally, I bought my new comer - the 1970 Road Runner - only about three years ago. It has been my dream car since my teens, so I have been saving for the last three years to start a restoration. I will keep that one till I'm pushing up daisies!

Yeah, I'm sick, but some sicknesses are better than others!

I think some perspective is needed here. So you buy a project car for $5-$8k or so, and drop another $10-$30k into it. Is that a sickness? How about the guy who drops say $55k into a new Tahoe or Expedition? Or $35k or so into a higher-end Mustang or Camaro? All of which is worth half what they paid as soon as they drive it, and will be for sale on a used car lot in another 4-5 years for about $10k.

To me, dropping huge $$$ into new rides that'll be worth about 1/5th what you paid for it when you sell it is a sickness. :)
