Axle refuses to come out

After media blasting our 8 3/4 diff we noticed it has a slightly bend tube on the right hand side. We began stripping it down . The left hand axel and backing plate went like clockwork. The righthand axel refuses to come out . ???
I assume the bend has caused the spline end of the axel to jam in the nugget. ??
Our idea is to secure the housing to something immoveable and then wrap a rachet strop to the axel . Then slowly tension the strop till the axel pops out of the nugget. ??
Any ideas or thoughts please.
Our 1st option is to try and straighten the housing.
2nd option is to narrow the C body diff i have . It came with my cuda parts. I got E bodies and a B , so no use for it.
Not easy to find B body housing here in NZ.

Slow tension with a strap probably won’t work. It’s going to take a very large slide hammer or ‘shock’ to remove it. Quite frankly, If you’re able to see the housing is bent from just eyeballing it from the out side and not using a line bar once the axle shaft is removed, it is probably bent beyond repair. We do a lot of housing repair and narrowing at our shop and the banjo housing, whether it’s a Chrysler 8.75 or a Ford 9”, don’t lend themselves very well to straightening if they are severely bent. The banjo housing wall thickness is on the thin side and usually will compress in the area that you’re pushing on much faster than straighten itself. Also, once you get the shaft out, you’ll probably find either the flange or the shaft itself will be bent or both. Good luck!
 
Been down this trail. Many years ago bent the right side on our 63 Dodge drag car. Splines got stuck in the spool. A loosely attached brake drum can work as a slide hammer. I straightened a C body housing before finish welding last year. Did it by heating and quenching. It's a amazing how far it moved when heated. If you can't get the shaft to hammer out. Look and see which way the housing is bent. Heat it aloong the side it's bent towards. It'll move a bunch. Then hammer on the axle using the drum or old rotor.

Seing you are taking it apart try taking the carrier nuts off and get the carrier loose and see if it helps.
 
Great advice above. Yes heat moves metal.
Loosen the nugget, you only need a 1/4" of movement, but they hang up on the studs some.
 
There is a Big Mopar special tool (slide hammer) that bolts to 3 axle studs that is pretty nice. A friend of mine has one and I'm jealous.
I don't know anything about straightening a tube but I found a YouTube video about straightening shafts once and it was really good. It was a well drilling shop in I believe Amarillo, Texas. I don't know if that knowledge applies to tubing. I had a new race car built in 2011 and it pushed easier than my old car. I told my chassis guy that and he said the axle must have been bent a little in the old car.

I like to start the morning with a laugh but wasn't expecting to laugh so hard. You guys never fail to surprise me. Had to be a fellow Kiwi involved too.

Thanks for all the input, looks like I will need to wear my earmuffs for the serious hammer work.

We did loosen the nugget nuts and hit it with a rubber hammer, then a wood drift. It to holding on tight. Assume I have to hit it harder.

I will get photos but as Vitamin_A12 said, housing may be too far gone.

If the diff has been involved in some drag action, there may be a burr on the end the axle sahfts....causing binding.

Just a thought. :thumbsup:
 
Great news. We used the drum as a slide hammer and popped after 4 pulls. Axel in perfect shape. Used more force on the nugget and it came off too. Has 3.23 gears .
Housing got kink in 1 tube but when we measured it every way possible with straight edges it is parallel at ends of housing. Looking good.
Forgot my camera so no photos.
