What would be the best gas mileage you could hope for with w b-body and say a 6 banger? Something like a 63 Polara or similar.. Smaller lighter weight car.. automatic though..LOL

My wife's volare with a /6 auto gets about 14-5 mpg but it sat for a couple years b4 we got it and i'm still tuning it up using non-ethanol gas.

Best mileage I ever got with a /6 was in a 74 D100 short box, 3 speed with 3.55 gears and 27" tall radial street tires and that was 21 driving it like my life depended on it but normal driving usually netted 16-17. A 67 Dart with the /6, 3.91 gears, 26" tires and 3 speed got low 20's in town. Everything else was mid to high teens.

Has anyone considered the unorthodox idea of a turbocharged mopar four banger? 1st gen Dodge Dakotas had 2.2 engines (non-turbo) standard. Those engines have been installed in RWD vehicles before, so the RWD installation is a possibility. It would also be less weight than a V-8. It wouldn't be an easy solution but it might be possible. Personally I'm not going that route but I have been collecting parts (driveshaft, trans mounts, etc) to possibly convert my car to small-block power. I've been considering it and keeping my options open.

Realistically your best bet is a magnum 3.9 v6 or a mag 318 out of a dakota. Those trucks when coupled with a manual trans will break 20 mpg hwy. But dont expect more unless you transplant something extremely late model like the 3.5 or new 3.6.

im gearing up to go full on 3g hemi. Any cars i get from here on out will be getting the modern motor. You can go from mild to wild depending on what you want, and if its fuel mileage you are looking for, use a mds motor with a factory tune. You will have ok power and decent mileage.
i personally am planning a 5.7 with a turbo.

of course you could always do a 4 cylinder , but I wouldnt recommend a 2.2. Here is a dart with a 4g63 mitsubishi turbo 4 cylinder. Goes low 10's and probably gets decent mileage when driven normally
