Cats

Went they poop out of the box put the poop in their poop box and make them smell it. Maybe if that doesn't work separate boxes until they go in them. Then eliminate one box, make'm same color. Lotto work.

Drop them off at the nearest Chinese restaurant.

We’re not givin up just yet, we got a few more things to try.
The kittens are probably stressed in their new environment. When we brought our two home from the shelter, with an older cat in place, we kept them in my den for almost a week to get them acclimated, with their own food, water, and litter box. Didn't let them roam the house. During that period, our older cat was nosing at the closed door, and the kittens did the same. After the first week of adjustment, we gave them full run of the house, and never had any issues with the litter box, Johnnie bonded with the kittens as soon as they started to explore.

Empty the box and wash it with soap and water to eliminate any previous ownership smell. Pour some bleach in there too, and swirl it about to really kill anything organic. It seems odd they would BOTH be affected by a smell or environmental issue. Unless, the area they're using now has a familiar "it's okay to poop here" smell.

I find most cats prefer litter, unless they're feral and don't know any better. Keeping them locked up in the small room with the box, until they poop in it, may be another play.

I don’t know, but both of those places look scary to me. Maybe your cats think that it’s a trap of some kind and avoid them. Since you let them in your living room, maybe try putting a box where they last pooped and see if they will use it. If they do, start moving the box a little at a time in the direction you want to eventually put it. Hopefully not in a place that they are afraid to go.

Agree- those box locations do not look comforting.

Agree- put the poop in the box.

They make "attractant" to add to litter. It works fairly well most of the time.

...and agree- if you can, put those young uns in a bedroom by themselves with a box for a few days.

I agree with putting the poop in the box. I did that in the garage for that cat that was under my shed a few posts up.
Also I make a habit of taking any new cat and placing them in the box and make them scoop a little by working their paws. Then I let them hop out and my success rate is pretty good.
