B Body stiffening

Finally got some more done, actually the guy who owns the shop did this fab work and final adjustmemnt/locatino of the motor/trans assy.
Here are some pics of the trans mount he fabbed up and the floor hump support he rolled on his equipment.

Here is the floor piece I cut out so the trans would clear set back in place. Looks like we will only have to add a 1" +or- extention onto the bottom and weld it all back in.....COOL!
It appears as though the drive shaft will clear the tunnel all the way back also. Will know in a week or two when we get the new drive shaft back. The rubber "shock insulator" (typical Mercedes engineering) at the back of the trans is going to be replaced with a solid aluminum piece with countersinks for the bolts. Then a ne yoke piece with "U" joints will be attached to that so the new drive shaft with a slip joint can work. The ne LX cars don't have slip joints.

One other note, this trans mount configuration will allow the transmission to be removed for service (if required) WITHOUT having to drop the whole motor!!

Here are some more pics of the transmission mounting. We turned a piece of aluminum to replace the rubber dampner on the w5a580. This allows us to bolt on a "U" joint which further allows us to use a slip yoke. Custom drive shaft is in progress.
Also "sleeved" the cross member to allow exhaust to go through instead of under

Here are 2007 Charger R/T front disc brakes on a 70 B Body. AlterKtion, Baer hubs on MustangII spindles.
We turned a little bit off the hubs so the spacer could be 100/1000ths instead of just a sliver. The spacer compression fits on the hub so if I have to change rotors I won't have to worry about the fit.
You can see the caliper mount plate also. It will get cleaned up and shaped better.
rear swap is going to work just fine. The rotor diameter is EXACTLY!!!! the same as the 8 3/4!!! amazing! All we have to do is fab up a caliper mount and weld a plate on the inside of the shield so we can redrill holes for that to mount up to the 8/34 flange holes.

I am spending tomorrow and Thursday at the shop ....maybe Friday too!
I saw yesterday how Dean modified the aluminum caliper /backplate mount from the Charger to the GTX. I will get some photos of it and post them by the weekend.
It is too cool! Although I think in the end the rear swap would cost more than just buying a set up designed for the B Body rear if you had to pay for machining and shop time. For a skilled person it would be worth it....I am anxious to see if we can make the antilock system work as well. I am not that knowlegeable about such things but I can't see why it shouldn't.
The custom drive shaft is done also so I should be able to show that also.
Wait til you see the custom "X" pipe for the exhaust...WOOOO HOOOO!
Bill...we will have to make sure we connect at a local show so we can swap stories about the "4Aces" and the "Fire Empire" at Clark:woohoo:

Here are some shots of the rear brake swap. I took the rear bracket assy off the Charger. It was then cut in such a way as to preserve the caliper mounting and e-brake attachment point. After that it was chucked up on a lathe and the main body was turned so it would slip over the hub/flangeon the 8 3/4 axle. The main bracket from the Charger fit the dia of the 8 3/4 housing perfectly,it only had to be "hogged out" so to speak so it could be pulled flush with the face of the flange on the 8 3/4.
A piece of sheet steel was cut to fill in the backing plate fron the Charger. Another hole will be cut for axle clearance but this was required so we could drill holes to line up with the holes on the 8 3/4 flange. Hopefully you can see all this in the pics.
DAMN IT!!! I used a different camera and now the site won't upload the pics.
This kind of **** is really aggravating, it is the SAME brand (Cannon Power shot) but has 10 megapixels instead of the 7 on the other.

Pretty much all this is for the caliper mount and e-brake assy.
Like I said before, it may be easier to use one of the ready made systems and perhaps less expensive. It would depend on
1. If the after market system comes with a caliper mount and e-brake.
2. How handy you are and if you have the equipment to do it.
Dean has about 30 hours in this so you can do the math based on any particular shop's hourly rate.( Cool that he is a good friend)
One thing is pretty certain and that is that I have not seen anyone else post that they have made this swap work so I guess I have the only one. I know Alex has done something but I think it is on the front end, please correct me if I'm wrong Alex.

Wow. I think it's cool you're using all "Mopar" parts, but I think I would consider the scarebird stuff....seeing as how I don't have a lathe etc available to me
