Ive been trying to remove the vibration dampner/Balancer for a while now.. I have everything apart and ready to go but i have a few issues...

1- What size is this dang bolt that holds the dampner on... i have probably spent 100 bucks going back and forth to the parts store buying individual sockets for it...

2- how do i keep the motor from turnin.. i dont have access to a impact gun or compressor in my garage and no one wants to lug a giant compressor over.. i have tried the flywheel holding tool, but quickly realized i have a sealed inspection cover.. well not enough room to get the tool in.. i was going to weld a bar to the balancer to have it turn and hold on the garage floor, but steered away from that thinking it could bend the crank if this bolt decides to be stubborn...

Any ideas or old tricks.................../pppppppppppplllllllleassseeee tell!

Thanks

Can't remember the size of the socket and as far as breaking the bolt loose, use a breaker bar making sure it's resting on the K-member and hit the key and let the starter do the work!!! Worked everytime I have ever tried it!!!

The bolt is 1-1/4". The starter trick is good but make sure the bar is not in a position to slip and go through the radiator! I'm just sayin'.....

just dont hold the end of the breaker with your arm either- yikes- surprised you dont have a buddy with one of those new rechargable impact guns....damn

LOL, Go through the radiator, that's why I said make sure it's resting on K-member! I have a Matco re-chargeable 1/2" impact and it has more torque than my Matco lightweight air impact (I think it's rated at 820 ft. lbs!)

You can also pull a spark plug, feed a bunch of nylon rope into a cylinder that's at or near BDC and turn the motor over until it compresses the rope up against the cylinder head. The nylon won't hurt the cylinder walls.

X2

Also a good way to do valve stem seals without pulling the heads if you dont have an air compressor.

I got it off......used a electric dewalt impact....

But!!!!! i noticed on the balancer all kinds of drill hole in them... Now im trying to buy a SFI dampner, but how can i tell what the balance will be now?

can anyone answer this question?

Does the flywheel and torque converter have to be weighted and balanced too if weight was removed from the original balancer that i removed

Thanks

Why are you replacing the damper? Is your engine internally or externally balanced? Can you post a picture of the damper you removed?
