Best and worst car show accessory

Not everyone has the need, but I think one of the best accessories has to be the poles for holding up the A12 hoods. Brilliant..and much better than setting the hood on the roof of the car..

(Hey what the hells up with the gm sign!)

I not a fan of all the lounge chairs & ice chests
(especially the over the top matching paint, with a matching canopy)
people sitting behind the cars, all day long

I like to get up walk around, talk to other car people

I'm not a big 'car show' guy

albeit;
I did enter the Roaster show with a few of my racecars
or at races for best appearing etc. when they are fresh/new
mainly to help the sponsors, get a bang for their buck
my cruisers/drivers, I've only entered in a few show

I'm more of a take your car to race/event
to use the car
or autocross
or to a cool cruise
or even a short cars & coffee,
But not spend all day at a car show, shitting/standing by the car...

I understand & totally respect why people do it...
I understand all the work that goes into the cars too
& being around alike people etc.

Just not my deal, I breeze threw, check out some cars
say Hi to someone I know or an old bud etc., then hit the road...

That's why I go mostly to cruises, little time to set up the clutter

I use my stuffed plush Roadrunner behind the steering wheel in the driver's seat and my smaller Coyote under the front tire on a mat that looks like a section of highway when I go all out at a show. Children (of ALL ages) love the display....
I don't have to do that to make my Roadrunner stand out, but the smiles and laughter, and sometimes conversations that generates is priceless!

Sorry Bio, no disrespect, but I disagree. The 70 is the pinnacle when it comes to Roadrunners in my opinion. Best year ever produced. (Great looking Bird by the way)
No need to try and and glitz it up with plush toys. I hate that **** at shows. Demeans the car in my opinion. Kids laughing or not.
Its says to me that the owner was done buying parts and decided to drop a few extra bucks on some useless items.
Let the car stand on its own.

I've been doing the swap meet table thing lately. I'm sure I lose money after the fees and the the money I spent on the stuff originally but it's fun. You get to meet a lot of people. Usually the car is racing and we take turns manning the table. We do go to the local small town show. Monument is a bedroom community off of Colorado Springs and the cars are phenomenal.

ARMOR ALL, WET TIRES !! IMO, Most of the judges I've come across are knowledgeless halfwit's. I've seen favoritism, combining classes, cause the didn't have enough trophy's.. . If I go to a car show with my car now I pay to be judged with the showing cars just so I can keep an eye on it ,and so I don't have to walk a gazillion miles if I find something in the swap meet. The problem with local car shows are you see the same cars all the time. sorry for the negativity but I got my milk crates full of shinny plastic and came to realize after a while its kind of sad to watch these guys being so serious about it. like its a competition.

I do like the pictures that the drone takes. I prefer cruise nights

No disrespect taken. To each his own.
Some venues, I roll out the "full compliment" of accessories. Roadrunner and Wile E stuffed characters, with Wile E "assuming the position" on the simulated highway mat, an original (circa 1969/70) plastic body w/rubber head Warner Bros Roadrunner that is about 10" tall, a round metal Roadrunner "throwback" sign, and a rectangular metal Roadrunner and Wile E sign. I also will place my 1970 Plymouth Service Manuals Vol. 1 & 2 as well as the 1970 Plymouth Satellite Owner's Manual somewhere, usually on the seat.
Some shows I intentionally DO NOT put the stuffed toys out because I see too many kids out or too many of the ones I see are behaving like raging lunatics.
Some shows I keep all the "fluff" put away because I don't want anything to take away from the focus on the car.
The main reason why I use the stuffed plush toy display is to see little kids and adults who love or at least recognize the Roadrunner cartoons and characters smile, laugh, point....and sometimes THAT can kickstart a conversation.

WORST:
*The stuffed dolls in coveralls leaning against the bumper as if it is sleeping or crying...What the Heck, man ??? Of all the things a man can do, this looks totally unrelated to the car and dumb as ****.
*Trophies...I get it, the guy is proud of the car but as stated, it smacks of insecurity...Look at all the praise and acceptance I have received! You must join in since so many others already have!
*
Car show owner couples dressed in shirts the same color as the car: A guy I knew had a 70 'Cuda in SubLime green and at every show, he and his Wife wore Sublime shirts. Their fold out chairs were SubLime as well. In fact, couples should never dress alike because it looks either dorky or creepy.
*Pop up canopies: They intrude on space and become a problem when the wind picks up a bit.
*FOR SALE signs with no price: I see "For Sale" signs often at the Fall Fling in Van Nuys, CA. For some reason the cars at the Spring show rarely have signs in them.
BEST:
*Photo albums of the car from purchase to completion: I love these! We all can appreciate the time, expense and dedication it takes to resurrect these cars so the photos are a great thing to see.
* Sign displays: Nice touch but I often see them with typos, numerical errors, etc. Proofread and get it right. There are no 3.55 Dana axles, no "Posi" differentials, no 3/4 race cams, etc.
*Coyote displays: These are great but only for Road Runner cars! This was the classic "Tortoise and Hare" rivalry at play. Wile E Coyote was always trying to outsmart the Road Runner but lost every time. The Coyote and a Charger? It makes as much sense as an armadillo and a Camaro.
*Fuzzy dice, drive-in restaurant trays on the drivers window, etc: GREAT stuff for classic cars from the 50s through the mid 70s. That was the era when people really frequented those places so it just fits the theme.
*Mirrors to showcase the undercarraige: Fine at indoor car shows like the AutoRama series.
THE FOLLOWING CAN GO EITHER WAY WITH ME:
*Gas cans, Oil jugs, antifreeze jugs : I see these at the multi-make car shows. I'm okay with it but would not miss anything if they were not there.
*Velvet ropes around the car: Some cars are super rare or extremely valuable and the owners are still willing to bring them out for others to see. I get it but it is annoying to feel restrained from getting a closer look.
All in all, I enjoy car shows. The worst part of them though? The know-it-all spectators that have seen it all, know it all and feel the need to critique everything despite never owning anything cool.

This post is kinda/sorta on subject. My 3 car shows I've visited this year locally I've seen many B-bodies with the Gen-III Hemi installed, nice & tidy all. That is cool in its own right, but it has been a long, long time since I've seen a B-body at a car show locally with an optional accessory Elephant motor under the hood...……………. just sayin.'

Car shows are okay. My son is still young and I let him be in charge of the all the prep work. I just pay the bills when the cars need something. He collects the trophies. We've only entered a few. The most fun was the Rock and Rumble show. We bought a POS '70 Pontiac GTO drag car that's 4 different colors, interior stripped to the bone with a Chevy 454 mill, drag raced it in one section of the meet, put it in the car show in another section of the meet with some immaculate hot rods (there were a ton of Rat Rods too) and had a blast. There were 5,000 people at that thing. So much fun! I'll take your guy's advice and try some cruises.

There are some meets my son goes to where I am not welcome. Friday night stuff in parking garages. I'm too old by 40 years.

I don't understand why anyone uses the phrase..."Just sayin".
It adds nothing to a sentence. Whether spoken or written, it makes no sense to me.

Just sayin..... I dislike clean clean cars I prefer to see they we're driven and can actually run and have fluid's in them .

I can't stand do not touch signs !
I get it . But is a 2 year old really going to hurt anything? It's a car I let anyone and everyone get in my 64 300 k conv kids love it . I don't shine it up I drive it park it and go bs with other car guys . If it wins it wins if it doesn't oh well ! The junk plastic things you win just take up room and collect dust !

I hate those hide and seek dolls and pissing dogs ! It makes no sense to me . I guess if you need to hide a scracsc or a leak?

I guess my biggest dislike, while not an "accessory", is the trailer queens, ESPECIALLY when it comes to judging. They should be in a class of their own. Having a car like that, that you can't (or won't) drive and enjoy, just rubs me wrong.

The worst part of car shows is watching a mustang owner mopping the dust off there cars every 15 minutes .

I find it odd that threads like this even get started. It just turns into a bitch and gripe session or throwing rocks at each other. I'll duck now :D

I dunno. I've learned to try cruises. Funny we don't have any Cars and Coffee around Colorado Springs. The ones in Denver are all high dollar exotics. I did learn there is a meet every Saturday night through the winter here which is crazy. Put on by Dragonman. He's already had his own thread started here by someone. What a character. He goes his own way and it has worked for him. I do want to see his German WWII museum.https://www.dragonmans.com/
