Bob Hope, always a class act............

It's easy to argue, we've sort of lost our way.

great stuff there, thanks for posting it.

Bob Hope was a great comedian & a great, giving man too, very conservative minded...

Among other places, Bob Hope is remembered at the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio and at the Naval Aviation Museum at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. He was a fine comedian and a big supporter of the troops.

Genius for sure. Thanks for posting.

The last three words. Was that really necessary? Sounds to me like you're trying to politicize this thread. Bob Hope was a very funny man, and as you said, he was a giving man as well.Who really gives a rat's *** whether he was conservative or whatever????

He was a self proclaimed conservative, had it in his movies & most of his act too, was part of his performances, I wasn't trying to make it political, just an observation, sheesh so freaken' touchy...

what do we have to walk on pin & needles, for some people now ??, I'm so damn sick of this PC crap, can't use certain or select words now, someone will whine...

I know. I just thought that the last statement wasn't really necessary.

Interesting... I just noticed you sig. "Liberals & the Intolerant, spiteful, hateful, vindictive, immature people, are ruining all of the USA today"

Can we modify that a bit? Let's just remove "Liberals &". How about we make the statement like this... "the Intolerant, spiteful, hateful, vindictive, immature people, are ruining all of the USA today"
Does that work? Because, I'm thinking there's a lot of the right wing that could be enveloped in that statement as well as the left.

nope

I'm sure there is too, but I'm not going to change it either...

No worries! This is probably not the thread where we should be discussing this.

We're here to talk about Mr. Bob Hope, and what he did for the troops.

He was a great man, and he has my respect.

He has mine too... always has

I believe it would be a great injustice to the man if we modified our current memories of him by excluding any conservative verbage.

Personally, I think I'd roll out of my grave and rain hell down on anybody that tried to pretend I was anything but what I actually am.

Budnicks, your casual mention of Mr. Hope's conservative nature is in fact necessary and it is very much appreciated by me.

I also love your sig line.

Conservative or not! He's was a heck of a lot better than any douche bag we have today doing shows for the troops. Which would be???????????????????????????????

I didn't mean to insult Mr Hope or conservatives.

I've just never liked the fact that people need to add "tags" to something or someone.

First "black" ...., first "woman"...., First this, first that. Best this, best that....

IMO that is the biggest problem in both our countries. We add these tags, and I think that separates people rather than bringing them together.

Using Bob Hope as an example. He was a wonderful person, he did a lot for the country. IMO that's the important bit. Whether he was conservative or not doesn't matter one bit, and to add that, IMO, takes away from his legacy as a great American.

I'm too young to have experienced one of Bob Hope's USO shows in person. I watched them on TV when I was a kid.

But I am a combat service veteran, United States Marines. I served in pre cell phone times, pre skype, pre tech age. It was multi patch land line telephone calls with a voice delay that turned a 5 minute communication attempt into 20 minutes (if you were so lucky) and of course letters to and from home.

I identified with the USO as a familiar refuge for service men and women. Entering into a USO facility had a nice nostalgic feel to it, you almost had to look around for Bob Hope, as if he'd somehow be there.

There is a cultural knowledge that you would have to actually experience in order to understand in the US military.

We love Bob Hope, we despise jane fonda. (it gets a lot deeper than that, but I'm trying to respect the forum rules)

To exclude conservatism from our description of Bob Hope, would be silly IMO.

We wouldn't exclude the fact that he was a golfer. So why is it that we would have to sensor ourselves on his political affiliation? Does it offend liberals if we call Bob Hope a conservative? I can't see how it could?

Does it offend gays if we say Bob Hope wasn't gay? I doubt it. Do we have to tip toe around his skin color to avoid race issues? Religion too? (I hope not)

If I was from the same home town as Bob Hope, it would be worth mentioning because I'm sure they are proud of him back home, I don't think a guy would get gigged for doing so.

As a former service member who was always well aware of who loved us, and who didn't... Casual mention of Mr. Hope's affiliation is relevant to me. It is accurate and it does matter quite a lot.

It is consistent with what history has taught US service members through many generations. Will I surrender the validity of this fact to a politically correct protest from a citizen of a neighboring country.... No.

Whenever I saw Bob Hope I thought "Now there's a guy who really loves what he's doing". It didn't seem to matter if it was one of his movies, USO shows, golf tournaments or whatever, he always seemed to be enjoying the moment. He never seemed to be down about anything. I guess I never gave his politics much thought because he was never in anyone's face about it. He just seemed to want to do whatever he could to make things better and what he was really good at was entertaining people and making them laugh. I wish that I could have seen one of his USO shows when I was in the military but I never seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Thanks for the memories Bob.

Politics & one line zingers, was part of his act, if you know anything about Bob Hope you'll understand...

First off, I'm not being politically correct. That is actually the last thing that anyone who knows me would accuse me of. My friends would tell you that I am the most politically incorrect person they ever met. I personally don't give a rat's *** whether Mr. Hope ( I use the title Mr. because I respect him) was Conservative, Democrat, straight, gay, Protestant, Catholic...whatever. Mr Hope was and always shall be a wonderful person, A great Human first and foremost. Everything else is unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

I was not offended by the fact that Budnicks posted that Mr. Hope was a conservative. That was never an issue. I just felt that it was not a necessary point, and as I read it at the time, I felt that it was "baiting". With the discussion Budnicks & I had after my original post I realized that I was wrong in my assumption. I'm good, we cleared the air so to speak. If you feel that it is important to mention that Bob Hope was a conservative, so be it. I respect that.I may not agree with your point of view, but I do respect it.
