I am on the brink of going to check out a 64 Fury. Upon request, the seller sent me a picture of the fender tag ...but somethings wrong.
I believe AB should be engine and the C should be tranny. AB is missing, and the C is a torqueflite. He's claiming it's a 383 4spd.

Someone may have converted it to a manual, and maybe the factory forgot the engine code??

I'll find out the 4th digit of the VIN this afternoon. That'll indicate which plant it was built in. I know each was different.

Bogus? It sure doesn't look like it. Hamtramck built cars have the engine code under Q-R with no code for standard engines. The Poly 318 should be the standard engine on 64 model Fury's.

What about the C code? The "5" would indicate a torqueflite, right?

I got looking closer and Lynch Road cars have no code for standard engine as well. The C5 would be Torqueflite. Need VIN to be sure where it was built. 4th digit of the VIN will be 1 for Lynch Road and 2 for Hamtramck.

You're looking at a 1964 MY data plate, keep that in mind. Reading these is different from say, the '66-'67 tags.

Looks like it started out as 318, automatic. Could have had a powertrain swap over the years.

Thanks boys... especially Mike and Dave. I concur - looks like a 318 a/t. Bummer. We'll, better to catch it now rather than later. I'm more familiar with 68-70 codes so I appreciate your expertise.
