Bought a pretty clean '66

The electrical tape on the decklid is to cover the drill holes for the PLYMOUTH letters. Apparently, that was a factory mistake & the electrical take was the cure.

Nope. All trunk lids had the holes drilled, as they could then be used for any (in this case, Plymouth) B-model coming down the line. If that trim didn't require those holes, they were simply taped over (not with electrical tape, but a different black-colored tape). Had lots of deck lids like that.

Doing some hand polishing on the paint this afternoon to get the oxidized layer off and I’m amazed how good the paint, chrome and trim are on this car.

I saw that you were looking for the plastic splash deflectors. Are they year and model specific? I have several that came from A and B body cars. The B versions seemed to often be riveted on. The A body ones I have were fastened with small screws.

The 66 cars got metal splash deflectors, 67 started the plastic ones, but either will work.

I actually found the originals in the box with the 4 wheel covers. To my surprise, they are metal.

There was a lot of metal 66 parts that were changed to plastic in 67.

The 1967's got the energy absorbing steering columns and dual reservoir brake master cylinder, both important safety upgrades. All 440 motor cars got the same 26" radiator as the Hemi cars, a situation that changed for 1968 as the big rad and shroud became an option.

I was going to the MCACN show in Chicago & it came up for sale here (in our classifieds) a week before the show. The car was also in Chicago, so I made arrangements to see it & struck a deal. The original owner sold it in 1975 with (I'm told) about 16,000 miles on it. The son of the 2nd owner put it up for sale after his father passed last summer. He only put on 7,000 miles in 45 years. I actually traced down the original owner through the certicard & talked to his wife on Friday. He was running errands at the time. I just wrote him a letter and am sending a bunch of pictures to him & I hope that he responds with some history for me.

That is an incredibly clean vehicle.

Given that the price of all collector cars has gone crazy over the past six months, I think that I paid a fair price for the car. If I thought it was too high, I wouldn’t hVe bought it.
