Has anyone had experience with Broadway title service? It appears to be a company that gets you Alabama title for yourcar, so you can get a title in your own state. I bought a RR in MD last month, and owner did not have title- just bill of sale. WA requires title, so I seem to have a problem. Thanks for any tips.

You have a big problem! Broadway title works like this. Alabama does not require titles, just a bill of sale, so you send broadway your vin and they issue you a bill of sale from Alabama so you can send that into your state and get a clear title. I only know this because the previous owner of my 51 Wayfarer signed his dead brothers name to the title who was the owner and thus voided the PA title. I had to pay Broadway $150.00 to get the Bill of sale so I could get a clear PA title.

If WA will not take a bill of sale than Broadway will not be able to help you. The only thing I can think of you could do is apply for a Lost Title in Maryland. They should issue you another Maryland title for the car and then you can present that to WA to get a clear WA title.

I hope this helps and good luck,
Joe

I think you are mistaken about this, I believe they will issue you a State vehicle registration. At least this is the way that OTHER title services do it through other non-title states such as Maine. I don't know of any state that will not recognize a registration from a non title state when you are bringing a car in for title/registration to a title state.

I am not mistaken because I personally used Broadway Title and they issued me an Alabama bill of sale which I then used to get a clear PA title. Alabama uses Bills of Sale only to get their registrations and this is how I got my title for the 51. Some other states do it differently but this is how Broadway does it through Alabama law.

How can you apply for a title with just a registration? In PA you need the title to get the registration and I think it is the same in most other states. If this was the case what would stop someone from using a registration card found in the glovebox of a stolen car to get a clean title in their name. All they would have to do is claim they bought the car without a title and boom they own the car.

To the original Poster. If you know anyone in a nearby state that excepts bills of sale as proof of ownership to obtain a title, just have them send your vin info to Broadway and they will issue a bill of sale to that person. You can then use that bill of sale to obtain a title from that state which can then be transfered to you and used to obtain a WA state title.

I know, it is a major pain in the A$$ to get a title but if the car is worth it then it is worth the hassle!

As I said earlier, The state of Maine and some other states are REGISTRATION ONLY States and don't use a title. This State issued registration is as good as a title when it comes from a registration ONLY State. Is the Bill Of Sale marked with any kind of offical State of Alabama marking? If not, what makes it any better than a simple bill of sale from an individual?

There is a title company out of Nevada that has an office in Maine that does these titles as well. They can be found with an Internet search.

In New York State any car pre 1973 is Registration only, no title.
Post 1973 cars must come with a title, in NYS its a pain to try and get a title for a car with only a bill of sale on a post 1973. At least thats what i have run into. good luck!!
Some times you can have a problem even with an out of state title and bill of sale. The NYS DMV can be a pain.
