This 67' Beleveder II I bought, it's a decent car, but a pure stock 318 car. Is it really worth the trouble, finding a date correct 383 and torqfite, and build a correct car, rather than just locate pieces and build what you want ? I'm talking end product value here. I'm finding I'm going have to build what I want, may as well buy date correct, or am I wasting time ?

Thanks

In my opinion, no. The purist will always want a #'s matching car. If the car was born a 318 and you swap it with date correct ...yada, yada... it's a clone and really only worth it to you. I say build the beast you want ot what others want!

It's yours. Ultimately, you have to do what makes you happy.

Unless your building it as an investment and not for enjoyment than go for it! Numbers blah, blah, blah, that sounds like the beginning of a boring build that will likely see few miles...........

build it like you want it and drive it like you stole it...
put a hemi in it, a wing on the back, some 22" wheels on it,shag carpet and velour seat covers if they make you happy..

Do what ever blows your skirt up...LOL

don't worry about what others think, especially the purists, I certainly won't & don't

Please don't take what I say as a insult, it's not meant to be at all...
If it's done with quality parts,
I doubt it will be worth much less "if any" {possibly more $$$}
mainly because a 318ci base or lessor model engine equipped car...
IMO IT isn't really what most collectors, that are going to pay a premium price for,
or are really looking for anyway, such a small market clientele, to appease...
IF it's done right, with quality workmanship & quality parts,
then the slightly modified, even era correct looking or even the resto-mods &
updated BB clones, can be worth more today, again that's IMO...

It's yours, build what you want, especially if it's not for resale...

"Build it how you want it, use what ever parts you want/need to, drive it like you stole it
& damn the rest, who cares what others think"

Build yourself a killer 440 "4-BBL" with a great suspension.
Keep it kind of stock looking outside!
A real SLEEPER!

Build it the way YOU like it!

Building a date correct 383 swap in av318 car is a recipe for losing money.

That being said I did go a bit out of my way to find a date correct HP stamped 383 fr my 1970 Super Bee.

The point I'm trying to awkwardly make is..... consider the context.

Build that 318 into a fire breathing, Chevy eating, Ford shitting monster!! Imo, only factory 440-6pk's or Hemi's should be restored to as factory built, beyond that, all is fair game!

Thanks everyone for your input. Have been looking for a date correct engine, and the nearest one is an eight hour ride. I know what I want is just around the corner. It will show up, just being patient.

Make sure to start a build thread when you do and posts lots of pictures.

It is what it is ! Date code correct or cool your choice,as cool as these cars were new there has been great advancements in technology and parts why build a car date code correct if you can build the ultimate driving machine for the same or less money? If it's a hemi car or a rare 440 car that there was only 3 of well yes numbers it is . But anything else it's your car build what you want. Hell I've been eyeballing the RT's hood for my rallye I know I shouldn't but why the hell not I own them both and I like the rt hood better so don't see a reason why I shouldn't (besides money)
Have fun with it you may not build another after this one
Good luck

You're wasting your time. There's not much of a market for 67 Belvederes be they date matching, numbers matching, survivor, or in any other form, so go ahead and does what makes performance and economic sense to you.

Now I know I'll get pushback from the handful of folks who think the 67 Belvederes are the bee's knees, but while I appreciate you guys love the cars, the reality is you guys are few and far between.

I have owned my 67 GTX 4 spd car since 1969 and it still has all the original drive train on the other hand my 66 Belv I WAS a 318 car - now a 500 inch Maxi - go for it!!!

I wouldn't worry about a date correct block. Just build what you like and not what it's going to be worth in the end. Most people will buy the car with any big block in it over a small block. That's just my opinion though.

That's what I'm going for, a nice 383 big block. There are no illusions about building another car. I officially retired in June, but I'm hanging on part time to fund this car. Maybe go to Mopar Nationals, or maybe even travel to fun places with it. I know guys that have built date correct cars, right down to the correct date radio. So far I have found a date correct 383, but it's nine hours way. Not what I'm willing to do now or in the future. Thanks again.

Yea the date correct block will not make it worth any more money so I wouldn't drive any farther than I had to. Since it is not the numbers matching engine I wouldn't care what year the engine was if I was buying the car.
