I run a 9" under my GTX with ladder bars. 9" diffs are strong, dependable, plentiful, and easy to get parts for. Not to mention the extra pinion bearing. And no, I haven't seen many 8.75's come apart, but I've seen even fewer 9" come apart. And to be honest, I've seen alot more Dana 60's fail. Anyway, how many 8.75's or Dana's do you see under Ford or GM muscle cars?

Its just as easy and just as cheep to get parts for a 83/4 mopar and its stronger than a 9" ford. I was running 10's with a B body in the 70's with a 8 3/4. I did try two 9" fords blew out both of them. Never broke a 8 3/4.

8 ¾ yaa gotta love’em for there simplicity on installation & and varity of gear selections... I have an A body 8 ¾ housing with ½ ton truck axles that were narrowed & resplined by Moser for $85, 3.91’s, 489 case. This gives the large 4 ½” bolt pattern plus 2”of more wheel space on each side in a 67 Belvedere. Works almost perfect for 10 inch slicks!

Strope builds garbage. Foose, while some of his cars are too over the top for me, some are nice. I am not a fan of two toning everything, keep the 20 inch wheels off. I wouldn't be able to drive one of his cars around here...he removes the wipers and mirrors for a "cleaner look". It may look nice, but it is ileagal to drive a car here without those parts.

Dana is the strongest rear and then the Ford 9" is next but the Dana is heavier. The 8-3/4 is a good rear but not as strong as the Ford 9" so thats why many high hp cars run them. My buddies 8-3/4 in his 10.0 Cuda was bowing the housoing and would leak at the center section gasket even with the rear braced it would bend a bit. So he runs a Ford 9" also. My cars are just 11 second street cars and the 8-3/4 works fine in them. Also having an auto car is easier on the drivetrain then a stick car. I like my car to be all Mopar but the fact is the Ford 9" is a very strong good rear thats not as heavy as a Dana and its a bit stronger then the 8-3/4. Ron

Was taught by a chrysler finatic early on only to run chrysler running gear. I dont want to give the ford guys any glory. Once the ford guys see it has a 9" diff they seem to think thats why it goes fast.....Keep everything as mopar as possible and it doesnt give them a foot in the door ....

When Ford needed a beefier setup for thier trucks they went to Dana also. I have an 8 3/4 in my Satellite, I do use a Ford starter relay though...

This has got to be my biggest most untolerable part of building a mopar. Some yahoo or famous name(foose,strope,etc) builds an unbelievable mopar only to put ford 9 inch in the rear. I just want to slap the taste out of their mouth when they do that.

I can put up with the alterkation,rms or cap front suspension, but under no circumstance should there be a 9 inch in the rear. If the 8 3/4 isn't good enough for them then use a dana 60 or go for the trick moser 8 3/4 fabbed housing with your choice of centers 741,742,489. Am i wrong or does this bother anyone else???:edgy:

It bothers me, danas are expensive for alot of guys, the Ford nine inch rears have heavier axel bearings, even heavier that Dana 60. Alot of racers use the 9 cause it has removable center section, plus larger axel bearings

All I can say if your not going to be swapping pigs based on trac condiions, put a Dana 60 in your Mopar. Not thats its a ford vs mopar thing, but the Dana uses less HP to turn. You can get any ratio you need. Do the research for your self, dont follow the BS. With Strange producing the Dana 60 improved, i see no reason for a 9" on a no pro or full effort race car. It might carry a little extra weight but its right where you want it over the rear wheels.

The Ford 9" rear is the strongest production made differential of any American manufacturer (Dana's are not made by Mopar), and more race parts are available for the 9" then any other rear. All NASCAR stock cars use a version of the 9" regardless of the (supposed) car brand for this reason. If you are running a ton of power in a serious racer, why not use the strongest rear? If you are building a numbers correct show car, then certainly stay with Mopar. If you are building a serious racer then use the best.

Personally , I like all Mopar drive trains , first off the 8 3/4 ain't nobodys pushover by no means , I have twisted drive shafts into before , but I have never broke an 8 3/4

Um, not to disrespect your opinion, but, I know Chip personally. You may not agree with what or how he does things, BUT, he is hands down one of the nicest and exceptionally talented people you will ever meet. I've never seen him not take the time to be interested in another person, their opinion, or their car. If we ever needed someone to represent our hobby, sport, or livelyhood, I would hope it would be him or someone like him. To spew hatred like that makes us no better than the people that would take our cars away to crush them.

I dont personally like his taste , but you have to admit he is a talented designer.

Hey, I am not saying I agree with all of his designs. I am saying that he is talented and a man of good character. He's worked hard to be where he is now. He is also very personable and approachable. I've never heard him bad mouth anyone or their ideas because they weren't to HIS liking. (Hint, Hint). I am saying that if we need someone to represent us as an industry or community, you could do alot worse and you couldn't find many better.
