Periodically, on FBBO/FEBO/FABO I see new / 1st time members who want/try to sell a car on their 1st post. (Sometimes appearing to be "too good to be true"!)

I also notice that sometimes there are no replies from members, which tells me current members are leary about being scammed.

I'm curious, has any member actually had any success in purchasing from a new member who immediately posts a car for sale?

If you have sent a Personal Message(PM) to the new seller, I'm also curious, what has been the typical response?

Thanks

You need to start somewhere but a new member should post in the welcome wagon and get to know the site and how things are done before posting a ad. I don't know about you but I don't feel comfortable buying from someone that doesn't have a positive history here. Just like E bay, a new seller with no feedback is a risk.

No way to become an unknown quantity without 'becoming' known. The chances of making a sale will rise the longer your here and the more about yourself and your cars that you share across the site on multiple threads/ sections.

I'd be very leery & just do your due diligence
don't take anything they say as fact
go look at it yourself, a plane ticket will be a great investment
"if it's to buy a car, otherwise sight unseen"

now on smaller stuff, it's not as much of a risk
but I'd still be very leery/cautious

(well when you can actually fly/go there)

especially if they don't even do a welcome wagon post

we do have a few members here,
some with very little contribution in any of the other forums
that pretty much solely use the Mopar Marketplace forums
for their free parts adds, professional parts sellers, cash businesses

IMHO some of them should be looked at in the same fashion as new posters
I'd still be very be leery or cautious

you have to start somewhere

I have bought PARTS from members with no feedback and had no problems. Of course I engage them in private conversations first. Everyone starts out from nothing here, so building a reputation as Toolmanmike suggested is preferred, and the best way to become known.

But be aware that there also are "Join to sell" members here. If they post a large item then disappear, I would be very careful. Usually they are the type to post the same item on multiple sites, with no intention of returning to the unsuccessful hits...if indeed there ever was an item for sale.

It's bad enough when regular sellers just blow you off with ridiculous prices or expectations....or just ignore your messages to them.

You can read a lot by what people write in a private message. Just be wary of jumping into any major purchase without checking up on them first. Ask a friend here for advice on them if you need to...or one of the regular members who buy/sell for advice.

Stay alert and don't just fork over the money. Advice I wish I had learned before I was burned by some thief in Kentucky a few years ago.

ANd while we are on the subject, watch out for members that are fishing for a sale. "What is this part" or "what is this worth"
threads can be a bad place to buy parts. I had a member have an issue with a purchase and I spent about 4 hours of my Saturday only to find out it was done behind the scenes through a non-sale thread and personal messages. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: If I see these types of transactions going on I usually delete posts and often complete threads. There is safety in proper sale and wanted threads. We don't want to see anyone get ripped off and the classified rules are there to help that from happening.

Feedback is important, I've bought and they never posted a positive feedback. It didn't bother me because I'm here to stay. I look at passersby with a kin eye. Trust is earned, not given.

Thank you, I can post all day and never add up to one post that saves someone a bunch of time and money. 46 years ago I was a mopar man and changed to Chevy. Built many GM cars and now I'm back to a mopar, that I didn't build, that part I don't like. It's to late for me to learn everything that the guys on here know about mopar. This site in overflowing with knowledge. People that can smell the difference between a tire that's been on a chevy or a mopar through a computer monitor. It's not about how much you can throw at a car, it's about how much you know about a car........... But, money does help........ Just saying.. LOL

See! Smart man, you came back!

Danny Boy you Messaged me about my Belvedere. You can check your messages and you find that I answered your questions. Pretty sure this post isn't about me But anyhow you never responded to my replys.

Gosh no, definitely not about you

I'll check my messages

In general, as I stated initially, this is about 1st time members, on their very 1st post attempting to selling a car, which appears low and with no responses from members

Just curious if any member had PM'd any of these sellesr and what their experiences had been(positive/negative etc)

Expecially interested to see if long terms member had actually had a good experience (good car/good price) from a new member/ 1st time seller with a" too good to be true" car and too good to be true price

I suspect I've passed up many "too good to be true" deals on this forum and was wondering if others took the chance and got a great deal from a new/1st time member posting for the 1st time

Hopefully, it is understood that my intent was never reference and specific seller, but to satisfy my curiousty about those taking chances on possible "too good to be true deals" on 1st time posting

Hopefully this answers the mail

It pays to be wary of everyone. There have been members ripped off or taken advantage of by other members. I have read these long posts several times . Generally, since you know none of us, as is the case with ebay, craigslist, etc you should engage in conversation with any seller. If they cannot describe the item well, or do not reply...then something is probably amiss. If the price is " too good to be true" than it probably is. I am not saying there are not deals to be made, but just be as diligent as possible. Typically here in FBBO we have good honest people. I have had only great experiences making purchases here. I would however be very wary of someone whose first post is selling something. Personally, I would wait until a newer member " established themselves" before I would enter into negotiations of a purchase. It just helps you to protect yourself and your finances.
