I am converting my 1965 belvedere II from a cable shift 904 to the 1966 and later 904 which uses linkage.
Does anyone know if there is a conversion for my old shifter? I would like to keep using my console.
Is there a shifter available in the after market that will work with 1965 b body consoles?
Any suggestions for a shifter, if I cannot use the console?
Where can I get a speedo cable for this combo? (1966 and later 904 trans and 1965 speedometer)
Thanx in advance

Dennis, My 65 was converted to mechanical linkage using all the parts from a 67. Now my car is column shifted.
You can use all the floor shift parts from the 66 up and adapt your console and shifter handle with some work. You will loose the button function for reverse/park but you get used to it after awhile. The speedo cable can be ordered for a 66-to 69 B Body That's what I'm using. In the photo is a old school Mr. Gasket auto shifter that is still being sold (Jegs/Summit) that is ever so simple and about $100. You may be able to use this shifter with the stock console. You just push down on it to get it out of reverse lock position.

Thanx for the info. Much appreciated.

I was told you could use a B&M cable on the top (left) mounting slot and then use a later model 66 up 727 with the stock shifter

I didn't do the conversion on my 64, but it has an aftermarket ratchet shifter that works in the stock console slot. So that's another option.

Mr Gasket Pro Matic. It looks and works just like the one in this video.

Would you mind sharing a pic of it with me please. I may end up going that route. I don’t like how the stock shifter can be shifted so easily out of Park when without keys, I know I’ll nvee have an issue but you never know when your at a car show. I have seen people get into other peoples cars when they walked away.
