The cable company is trying to rape us and we need to move on and do something else. I'd go with AT&T Unverse if it was offered here but Dumbcast needs to go. I'm not into a thousand movie channels but got to have Speed at least. Any suggestions? I'll probably keep the cable for my internet but not for TV or phone....

I have cable for TV and the internet, seperate phone service. been using my cable provider for 30 years now. I tolerate them

we switched to direct tv dish satellite and love it. very very very rarely do we ever lose a signal.
we switched from cable 3 years ago when we had a defective box and cable said it wasn't there fault. If i pulled the cable directly into my tv, i got perfect reception.
So i got on the phone cancelled cable and went to satellite direct tv./ and never looked back.

if you decide you want to switch to satellite pm me and i can get you $100.00 discount. we just need to swap contact information for direct tv. I get a kickback as well.

I'll keep that in mind....thanks!

I have Dish Network, its ok about the same as Direct i did have, to be honest i think there all crooks in it. Had problems with both but i still use Dish, speed ch is the one i watch the most wife watches other things, we have a two hook up system so i have my own in this room. Happy hunting, 100 bucks off on direct TV would help my decision... To close to Dish to matter for me having used both.

ron, they are all crooks. funny thing i had free cable from 1980-to 2004
those cable boxes worked great.
with this new digital deal, cant get it free anymore. i stopped once they switched to digital.

Yea, it is quite the racket for sure, most stuff all reruns on them, I don't do the movie thing much, we had Showtime free here last month i never had it on once. I do like the HD package although in this room, my private cave inside lol, I have a 27 in but no HD in it. Susan watches the big one in L-room. Nothin wrong with quiet! Direct and Dish are to close to the same things unless Direct has changed in the two years we've had Dish to say anything. Im sure there are differences but close i imagine.

I Have showtime because of DEXTER, CALIFORNICATION, AND SHAMELESS.
These are my 3 favorite shows. i also like WEEDS.

I agree with you guys...They're all crooks. Time Warner cable up here gets you cozy with a nice package and starts slowly taking things away piece by piece and then tries to charge you for them if you want them back...

They all lure you in with sweet deals!nail you for a 2 year committment,at teh end you're paying a pile for a few channels.I've had both sats.same BS just different addresses!

I use wifi, so many people in my neighbourhood have it I always have a good free connection.I bought a Magic jack for $60.00 and plug it into my laptop and have free phone calls any where any time.I don't pay for cable either I just watch tv/movies off the internet. :) Helps fund my Mopar project.

My son has it, and he can call free, if i call his number its long distance, if he had a regular phone it wouldn't be where he lives, never understood it..Maybe he hooked it up wrong but Springboro isint long distance from here. As bad as satellite is with how they get you with the 2 year thing and then shut some things off everyone seems to complain more of the cable around here and go to Dish or Direct. Cable must be worse, son has time Warner, he doesn't even get ESPN on his program let alone speed ch which to me is the important one, hard decision for someone looking to change for sure..

I have cable from our no choice/only thing available/small town. I have not investigated the dishes for sometime now. I used to have one years ago.

My questions are:

1. Can you get high spped internet service through them?

2. If so, what is the download/ buffering like on it for things like Netflix?

I've had Dish now for about 5 or 6 years, the first few years it was pretty brutal, the signal would go out if a tree branch moved, but it has gotten a lot better over the years. It only goes out once in a great while, and it's cheaper then Comcast or Direct tv.
