California Governor signs order to ban gas vehicles by 2035

Quick, Invest in copper!

For any of that to work, they will need many new electric power plants or other power sources, and an electrical grid that can handle the load.
Right now a warm day results in rolling blackouts.
Good point. Their power grid is a mess. Whats going to happen when they start plugging in 30 million cars? Surely will blow that 50 million amp fuse.

dont worry yellowstone park will blow up before 2035. then we all will be in a world of hurt

sorry but i would love to see yellowstone park before that happens . i want to RV across this beautiful country before i die

I dont think that will do anymore than delay the inevitable....and as KD implied...I dont think they will stop you using old cars....I bet some of the rich politicians have some very nice classic cars they will want to keep driving!
It is not inevitable if you put true conservatives in charge in California. Unfortunately there are too many uninformed voters in California who want nothing but handouts from their politicians.

Smog pumps....catalytic convertors...unleaded gas.....
Remember "cash for clunkers"?
How about those EPA mandates for ridiculous MPG requirements in short order?
Followed by the mandate for alky in our fuel - that's actually less fuel economical?

Nothing new under the sun; at the core of it all are socialists attacking western civilization.

I'll say a prayer for you folks on the left coast this evening, as I light up a smoke and richen
up the idle on Fred - whilst openly burning a trash pile and target shooting with my scary
black rifle.

All that "bad stuff" that happened, yet today you can buy a 10-11 second Challenger off the showroom floor with amenities galore, that runs very clean, and is 10x safer than our old jalopies. Technology and free enterprise will overcome.

Currently, Solar power density is pretty low, and the cost is high.
I think I read a 3Acre solar farm produces 1GWH per year. And I think most power plants produce that in a week.
Nuclear power plants may be required to meet power demands and low greenhouse emissions.
Batteries can, and should be recycled, but every step of the way , from mining, processing, production, is done using mostly fossel fuels, so there is no free lunch.
Producing an electric car and solar panels creates its' own environmental problems.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for advancing lower emissions and power independence, Just don't like that the politics overshadow the real technical problems.

Same issues with water quality standards. I think most cities just have the single water supply to homes where the water is used for all purposes and is safe for consumption, but drinking water can be optionally filtered by the home owner if they want. Forcing the city to provide super pure water is very expensive when much of it is for watering your lawn, or washing your clothes.

It's not like the politicians have to abide to the laws they pass on everyone else ;)

I listened to a radio program on this very thing in the US. If everyone converted to electric vehicles the demand would be so high it would need serious upgrading or replaced. Cost to replace would be +5 trillion, about a third as much as the government pumped into the US banks to keep them going in 2020 so far.

Well, yes and no....
You're conveniently glossing over how many decades of advancement it's taken to get this far,
not to mention how many years we suffered with truly shitty quality, so slow and unreliable as to be
downright dangerous vehicles, too.
On top of all that, there were shortages, embargos, economic recessions, all due fully or in part to such
government overreach.

(Now, the argument could have been made that American manufacturers would have continued to crank out
crap otherwise, but once again - what REALLY caused them to up their games eventually?
Yep, you guessed it - market competition, in the guise of imports hitting the shores, not whatever the 40 year
liberal Congress was passing week by week...)

After all, if capitalism vs. socialism teaches one thing more than anything else, it's that market-driven advances
work a whole lot better than government mandates - because they were wanted by the population, more than
anything else - they were organic, not artificially shoved down peoples' throats.

Further, they were actually practically achievable - something those ridiculous EPA CAFE requirements spit out
during Obummers' admin STILL have yet to see. Those deadlines kept getting pushed back, then ignored
summarily for a reason.
You can't keep adding weight to vehicles for safety and equipment demands and at the same time insist on
getting astronomical corporate fuel economy numbers. Just common sense...

In summation, I offer that today's cars ARE admittedly much better in most every way except for looks IMO -
but I submit they've taken decades to get here and are a result in SPITE of having all manner of federal mandates
forced upon them, not as a direct result OF them.

Saw this headline on the Babylon Bee

State With No Electricity Orders Everyone To Drive Cars That Run On Electricity

So many California license plates now on my commute. I can only hope they didnt import the politics that made them leave.

The only problem I think would be is , they take there idealisms to another state. Then it is like a ripple effect. We have something like that up here. Were not doing very well in my opinion . To much nonsense

They didn't say they are banning Gasoline Power Generators cause that is what they will need during the extended black-outs!!! LOL

Funny, I was just thinking that about Florida... Whatever FLOATS your boat.

Hell I agree with that too!
Fl sucks the miami area is terrible as is Orlando and Tampa is getting bad my little city is getting bad I'll be leaving here one day when I can afford to!
