Calling it a Day Retirement

With the New Year I'll be 63, informed the Boss as of February I'm calling it a Day. 21yrs NYCPD & 13yrs Executive Protection in NYC. Applied for my SSI early. Not sure of everything yet, so day by day I go.

Congrats,
Once you retire days go by like warp speed. Enjoy your freedom from the grind.

I retired in June. Left LINY promptly. In 4 months time, I relocated to Florida. Like Pops, I worked the grave hard shift, 12:30-8:30 am for almost a straight 30 years out of my 33. My sleep patterns were so messed up then it continues as a semi nightmare.

However! Knowing I left that idiotic minded state behind, I’m much more relaxed and not half way to a depression with winter knocking on the door, morons and wacko government leaders rivaling the old mega corruption days.

Do some political homework on who’s who around that zoo! You’ll loose your mind and wonder how the heck they got into office. And who they hired on top of that!
The devil resides in New York with a smile. They call it normal.

For me, New York was good until it wasn’t.
Hell is the impossibility of reasoning.

The power of working & A reflection on retirement. I have worked long hours in all my previous professions, which has brought great enjoyment. And of late I have seen way too many friends, co workers pass on without the joys of retirement. My concerns of course are to be financially stable, Happy & not Bored in retirement.
Not to be a Debbie downer, but be careful & stay safe these last couple of days! I found my mind wandering, thinking I only have 3 months, 2 months, 30 days etc. There are way too many stories of "he was set to retire " out there. Burn your sick days, PTO, or whatever you have if possible.
You'll find things to do, even just around the house. In 4 months I've remodeled 2 rooms, put hardwood floors in 2 more, etc. I've even got back into rebuilding carbs for a few shops around here. Once they find out you're retired, everyone starts asking for favors, lol.
Enjoy Pops!

Congrats! I keep telling my old high school friend to retire from the NYPD before it’s to late!
Thought that was you. Confused me with the Florida tags!
I hope you are enjoying the new digs, all the best.
Happy New Year!

Congrats Pops! I've been "gainfully unemployed" now for almost 12 years, after 44 years with UAL. NO REGRETS, but 73 Hemi is right, "Once you retire days go by like warp speed". Can't believe it's been almost 12 years.

P.S.
Remember the retirees motto - Never do today what can be put off until tomorrow.:)

Good for you pops! Congrats!

Congratulations Pops!
Plan on staying up there with "the chosen" or do you have your heart set on warmer climes?

I'll probably wake up as normal @4:30am for awhile.

Just food for thought, Make sure you're covered with Health Insurance to bridge from 63 to 65 when Medicare kicks in. To buy good Health Insurance can run $1200-$2500 per month.

Congrats, Pops. Also on my way out, told my carrier the truck is being parked for the last time before next Thanksgiving, have one more PA winter left in me, no more. I'll be 69.

Congrats to all of you that are able to retire. I hope you all have a long, happy and productive retirement.
Wish that I had been a little smarter about $$ when I was young. Probably have to work until they kick me in the hole. Oh well, wish in one hand...
Happy New Year to all!

I'm still covered by NYC, but there's a Big Butt of De blasio making changes to place all retirement workers of the city in a new section of Medicare. It's in the courts and hoping for the best.

I have to smack myself out of that!

sounds like you've certainly earned it

After 45 years working as technical sales rep and new boss is a 35 year old woman who is clueless and no it all march30 last day at 65!
They say, you'll know when it's time to retire.
Civil service was an easier decision for me. When some college kid does well on a single written test then becomes your boss...
But has no clue what to do.
