Calling it a Day Retirement

As unpopular as it was ,isn't it possible to still get health insurance under the affordable care act for about 300 per month per individual. I understand it more of a major medical than an all inclusive health plan but it could serve as a cheaper stop gap until Medicare kicks in.

The wife and I are retiring in April of this year. Not a fan but we signed up for, and are currently paying for, a plan through the ACA. For the two of us our monthly bill is $212 total. That includes a $108 a month umbrella plan to cover what the regular plan does not. Time will tell, but the plan looks better than the BCBS plan I carry at work. The big problem with ACA is how long the subsidies will last. For us that is around $1100 a month. Another problem is you have to watch how much income you claim/draw. At the above price, we only admit to $28K a year.

be sure to read the fine print on those ACA assisted plans, here in california i could have got a plan for 100.00 a month when i retired under cover california, a month into it i actually read the thing while sitting on the beach in hawaii...there's nothing free in this world,,they want thier money back as in they will attach your house to get it back,,and they base the monthly premiums on 2000.00 a month, it only takes a few years to hit 250000.00, they they say u owe.. while u r paying the 100.00..if u dont own anything its great,,if u do, watch out..its enticing considering for 2 of us the monthly premiums were 1800.00 on the open market..and here's a 100.00 a month plan...its designed to take your house when u go..sneaky m'frs.

Can you explain the subsidies and what the 1100.00 figure related to.

I have 1 year, 1 month and 29 days until 62 and 28 years in. But who's counting? Besides. I have a feeling it's going to be a long year?

good luck pops keep in touch don't see any time soon for me will be 73 most likely work till I drop .

Retirement will be no cell phone I’ll use a mega phone! No collision insurance I’ll drive junk, I’ll be happy will mail addressed to occupant! When they call trying to sell me windows I’ll ask if they can loan me 5.00. I’ll drink Mc donalds coffee while the idiots drink 7.00 coffee from star bucks and no more socks in the summer. O when my grown kids need money I’ll say we’re do we line up!

With the New Year I'll be 63, informed the Boss as of February I'm calling it a Day. 21yrs NYCPD & 13yrs Executive Protection in NYC. Applied for my SSI early. Not sure of everything yet, so day by day I go.
Congratulations!!!

Im calling it quits by Labor Day this year...but I’m a real quitter, going out at age 57.

My brother in law recently got diagnosed with cancer...chemo did not work. He is 64, owns his own machine shop. My point is, he’ll be unlikely to enjoy a retirement. Go as early as you can.

Congratulations on your retirement @Pops1967GTX ....you certainly deserve to kick back and relax after serving the people for all those years.

Enjoy every day, and please keep up your welcome contributions here.

Friday was my last day of work. Going in on Thursday for my last pay check. And Manhattan will see me only on a few occasion.

Congratulations!

As someone who retired mid 2020: Stay busy, stay active and ENJOY!!!

28 ..... pffft! I'm at 43 years & 2 months at the same job and I'm finally calling it quits at the end of April.
Wow. That's a stint. I'm coming up on 40 years in the field. The kids coming up are smarter faster and will be better. But of course lack experience. I have a good feeling with the future. I honestly believe that I contributed to a better climate. Professional and hopefully civilly. (And no. This is not "I'm nearing the end talk." Lol) Actually not in bad health or shape.

Congratulations on your professional success.

That may be true in your case....

It isn't the case in my field of construction. The majority of younger guys don't work as hard, don't work as smart and don't have the "can do" mentality that many in my generation do.
